Is there way to check "quality" of ELINT sensor?

Post by hb921 »

In database viewer ELINT sensors have max range and abilities. But two different sensors with the same range and abilities (like in Hawkeye and Prowler) can perform quite differently. Is there a way, which I totally missed, to learn anything more about expected ELINT sensor performance, from database? Or one just need to set up test scen and check?

Testing would be great if you have the time to give on this. If you can provide and some results nm detection that would be most helpful.

Thanks!

That is great - I should figure out myself to look at baloogancampaingn before asking... - thanks for help and for great site.
Not sure about other numbers, but DirectionFindingAccuracy confirms that I have seen in test - E-2C ESM is much better in pinpointing emiter position than EA-6B.

There is also that E-2C ESM can detect only between 500 MHz - 18 GHz. Both have PreciseEmitterID=1, which I think means they can classify and ID emitter based on their "library" of emitters. Seems also that E-2C can detect 250 emitters same time, Prowler 100.

Those I could deduct from that, ESMSystemLoss, I have no idea.

Interesting that there is a "peak power" rating.

ELINT is passive, and I would expect a "minimum power" rating.  In other words, what is the minimum power of a signal that the system's sensitivity can detect.  Generally, an ELINT system can pick up a radar signal at a far greater range than the radar can detect the aircraft intercepting it.

Note that those devices e.g. AN/APS-130 are multi-mode radars...so makes sense to have Peak power listed. Different devices than ELINT-devices listed under them.

Sardaukar,

Quite right. My response wasn't clear at all. I should have said that I would have expected to see a minimum power rating (for intercept purposes) on the ELINT systems.
