Mao Tse-tung, for United China

Things are quiet in our land this month. The Communist Command has been asked to raise more cadres. I will quote myself, from writing done in May 1938 :
The richest source of power to wage war lies in the masses of the people. It is mainly because of the unorganized state of the Chinese masses that Japan dares to bully us. When this defect is remedied, then the Japanese aggressor, like a mad bull crashing into a ring of flames, will be surrounded by hundreds of millions of our people standing upright, the mere sound of their voices will strike terror into him, and he will be burned to death.

Japan! Reject imperialiam, leave China now.

Japan is playing with fire. She is placing armor on the Soviet Border and militarizing our borders. I do not take threats such as this lightly.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

Looks like Sovjets are creating a pretence to start a war against Japan.

Japanese units moved to some distance to the border.

(Game frozen at beginning of Japnese turn. Had to close by task manager and restart the turn.)

Japan and China are still in a ceasefire. China has had a standing offer to Japan of peace, but has withdrawn it. China prefers an observed ceasefire to a false peace.

The developments all round us convince us of the dangers we face.

The ceasefire continues in China. We follow the war from afar now, for we know its currents affect us. We are aware of the fragility of the lull from combat we enjoy. Our land is still undeveloped, but our people rise to the call.

The state of China is in a curious position. We are certainly not a great power, and our land has been diminished by conquest. Our connection to the United States of America gives us some hope for a hand up into a larger role.

The USA presence in the Philippines makes clear their determination to protect their wards. The Communist Party has verified that the USA intends to make this nation self-governing as planned.

The war between the Axis and the Soviet Union has encouraged us that China will be left alone for awhile. We are vigilant.

Mao Tse-tung for United China

The United States of America will pursue its own interests, but we hear that their President is actively campaigning for the authority to direct foreign policy regardless of the state of war of diplomatic parties. This is important to us as we have a standing offer of alliance with the USA. When this alliance comes into force the situation in the East will change. China is its own country, and will never act as a tool of the United States, but where the two nations interests coincide there is real opportunity for cooperation.

The Japanese have attacked again, and we stood our ground well. Our troops are fighting for their homes.

Our counter-attack was directed at the Shanghai salient, which we much reduced, and are at the gates of the city itself. Our five light armor divisions performed very well, but took losses.
