The Weather Thread
A place to bitch about weather events!
Here's mine from yesterday's wind storm: 60 mph gusts completely destroyed my shed! The winds keep getting worse out here in Arizona... every year the windstorms seem stronger and more frequent, though rarely with any significant rainfall.

Haha... no moonshine in Arizona that I've ever discovered!

RE: The Weather Thread
have you ever seen the underground containers?

just change 88 to tt as didn't want to post live links
they might be a better shed for you then.
in wet places there not much use tbh as they corrode to easy, but in the dry with some good tlc and care building they would suit you maybe, won't blow away thats for sure

I am glad that you and your animals are ok.
To bad with the shed. I wish I lived closer so I could come over to help you with the repairs or reconstruction. [:(] Not that I would be that much help but then I could at least do something.

Unfortunately I can not comment on the weather.

A lot of people around here have old semi-trailers that they use for storage, but it looks so tacky
We've got a local place that sells Amish made wooden barns of various shapes and sizes, been thinking of getting one of those. They carry their own accounts and don't do credit checks. The barns are really nice.

RE: The Weather Thread
barns are nice but being above ground and strong winds in your area you could end up losing that also

Glad to hear you and your kids/goats are ok!
I visited Phoenix once in July, and it rained. I really did not expect such a thing since I thought I was visiting a desert. [:D]
It smelled pretty bad afterward too.

Arizona has a "monsoon season" from July through August with very frequent rainstorms. It's often weird with sunny skies before and after the storm. When I came out originally I was surprised to see rain almost every day up at Tsaile on the Navajo rez. It isn't what you expect when you think of desert.
I've been spared most of the big storms the last couple of years and rarely get much rain here on the ranch. I suspect climate change is the reason. Temps have been hotter as well.
The big El Nino that is building out in the Pacific may boost our rainfall. Forecast for NE Arizona is for above average moisture while the rest of the state will be dry.
We shall see....

Same for New Mexico, though our temps never get near what they are in Phoenix - higher altitude helps. Once, while in Phoenix for a business trip, it rained and turned into a steam bath! [:D] At least in Albuquerque the monsoons break the heat of the day and the lower humidity helps to cut the temps to something reasonable.
Our recent monsoons haven't been as nice as they once were when I first moved here, now they tend to be more scattered with really intense downpours in a single location, and nothing for nearby areas.

We just had a nice rain maker come through this weekend, probably the same system you're talking about. It is a rare treat these days. I miss those all night soakers though, the kind where it just steadily and softly drops throughout the night - haven't had one of those in a couple of year now.

Fingers are crossed that this El Nino will do something useful towards refilling our water tables. NM is slated to have a good outcome if the forecasts hold true, I'm not going to bet on it though...
