Strategy:

Attack only with aircraft and subs - sink SAG and subs - intercept recon and naval bombers in time

Implementation:

CVHG ran to south - sea harriers in AAW role - Bucaneers with Sea Eagle attacked SAG up north - Nimrods used first as recon - later with Sea Eagle as attack craft
after SAG was sunk and recon/bombers thinned out - CVHG steamed north to hunt subs

drawbacks:

sea harriers lacked the speed and range to effective interception of bears, badgers and backfires. often the bears outran the sea harriers and did find the CVHG after sea harriers missed with all 4 sidewinders

no long range interceptors like the Tornado ADV F3

no SOSUS - despite dropping a carpet of sonoboys no sub was found - area of missile launch was searched extensively by Nimrods and later by CVHG helos and ships

Nimrods had Sidewinders but they couldnt get a lock on bogeys - in reality the sidewinders were intended for slow moving recons like Tu-142 bears or Il-38 mays - falkland war feature

sheer luck:

dunno why - but the CVHG survived without a hit - vampires missed or were jammed/outmanouvred/destroyed by defence weapons/chaff/ecm - one escort was detached and used as bait 30 nm from group

one time 2 sea harriers were in landing pattern with vampires flying "escort" along threat axis

summary:

nice scenario - good for beginners - thanks to the developer [:)]

Attachment:

2 Sea Harriers (AAW) intercept 6 Backfire Bombers with 2x4 Sidewinders and some Aden Gun Pods - 1 Backfire got past them and fired AS-4 Kitchen on CVHG

In a balanced scenario this would also mean Su-27/MiG-31 escorts for the AV-MF force. So maybe a blessing in disguise [;)]

mig-31 foxhound is and was a continental interceptor for the "rodina" - the russian motherland - now in service as Mig-31BM until 2028, when a successor will be available.
the mig-31 was the only plane to intercept the SR-71 Blackbird at least two times in 1986.

One thing is very clear, the soviet union would never have deployed mig-31s outside the motherland. never. Sukhoi Su-27P (the main variant of the late 80ies) has a combat radius of 725 nautical miles. using inflight refueling with standardised UPAZ refuelling units by same su-27s (buddy stores) or UPAZ equipped su-24s or Ilyushin Il-78 Midas tankers the Flankers could "protect" the bears and badgers and backfires from tornados. Pity the sea trials on the russian carrier Tiblissi began in autumn 1989 so there is no chance for carrier-born su-27s and the scenario is CVHG vs. CVHG/SAG...

i love this game [:)]
