[RELEASED] New Scenario for Testing: NF 5.5 Trondheim Express (reduced)

Post by Gunner98 »

This is the reworked version of Trondheim Express. It follows immediately after NF5 Bardufoss Blues: These two scenarios together represent the original Trondheim Express.

I have not had a chance to test this in its current format so any and all comments or suggestions very welcome.

Enjoy

B

V 3.3

-Fixed the Su-33 Sweep
-Slowed down and reduced the F-16 arrival
-Fixed the messages
-For the ships, they were already on Wpns Free so I put them on a Surface Strike mission. That should do it.
-Had a timing problem on one of the tanker missions, but added a bunch more tankers just for good measure

RE: New Scenario for Testing: NF 5.5 Trondheim Express (reduced)

Post by Randomizer »

@ B

My ancient coal-fired P-5K and Win-XP tends to choke even on the NF-5 Lite using any TC faster than 5-sec so running the scenario is difficult. That said I really am finding them a challenge and quite like the necessity of detailed and realistic planning that the situation requires. The force mixes and situation is well thought out and, in my opinion, reasonable and sound within a historical and political context.

So, thanks for tinkering with your work and I hope to be able to run the scenario (and the Northern Fury series to date) to a decision once I get my next community scenario completed and uploaded.

Too many quality scenarios, too little time...

Ubique

Part way through and most working as intended. The NATO surface forces are just about in the game, a fair amount lost to opening strikes.
Only things encountered so far again minor. The exclusion zone isn't locked so NATO can move it.
The Messages are very nice as always, but the RAF one I thought came a fair bit after I'd launched the strike? In effect their ready time means they attack before the message goes live. Must admit the attack was also a major disappointment as the escorting Sovremmeny made short work of them!

Thanks again. I'll fix those two points for sure. Interested to see how much of STANAVFORLANT survives.

Nothing left of Stanavorlant now, but NATO now winning. I think I have about twelve hours to go, and the main missile boat attack is going in vs the convoy. Air strikes until now have damaged a few escorts but nothing spectacular. (score is about 500)

The two SAG's are virtually untouched, but I have one LA sub repositioning which might get in an attack in time.

I thought I was being really clever. To reposition I laid an extensive sonabuoy field with the P3, then sprinted my LA sub through it.
An hour or so later picked up an SSN. Hit this with a Mark 46 and clearly caused some damage. The Sub surfaced as it turned out it was on fire (you can probably see where this is going, especially Baloogan). At first I thought it was going to sink, but no such luck and the fire was being put out.

Soon afterwards of course the Sub shot down the P 3 with an SA-N-8, a genuine shock that. It then managed to successfully dive, and limped along a bit before the next P 3 arrived.

No problems encountered. Repositioning the subs is awkward, being behind the task groups who are mostly running at 18 knots. Not so sure all will make it!

I am at a dilemma with three SSNs - position them forward to influence Bardufoss Blues or in depth to take good effect during Trondheim express. I did consider splitting them, and might do that yet, but thought that they would be more effective working as a team, considering the volume of traffic heading their way.

Would appreciate your thoughts? I am thinking that a US and the Brit SSN up forward in Bardufoss Blues but lagging behind the Sov's in Trondheim Exp, leaving the other LA class for the close defence of Trondheim - although there are a couple SSKs down there.

Managed a score of 1611, the additional time allowing me to get in some combined attacks.
Both the Russian Amphibious group and the Gorshov SAG entirely sunk.

The subs take a while to reposition, but by then some of the air attacks had scored damage. This meant that a sub attack was coming in on the side of an extended formation already.

The air attacks were pretty pathetic otherwise, both Bullpup and the Jaguars not really getting a single kill between them.
The north pretty much entirely lost air control, but importantly the south NATO gained control, and especially so over the sea.

I think the only thing I did recall was the ships didn't tend to evade any torpedo attack, which may have been a result of ROE or the formation when hit.

I doubt any more needs to be done?

Thanks - we could re-name the water off Trondheim 'Iron bottom Sound - North' [:D]

Still debating the Sub layout between the two scenarios, it looks like they did a lot of damage. I'll also break up the Amphibs into two separate groups, and double check on the formations.

Appreciate the help.

Anyone else have any comments on this one?

OK got this one up as well. Have also updated NF 1,2 & 4 to the latest DB and included prosecution zones with other minor tweaks. Also up on the comunity thread.

Thanks to all, particularly Flankerk for their help on these.

Looking at NF 6 & 7 shortly, then 9. I need to rebuild 8 into smaller bite size bits, and rebuild 3 from scratch.

Gunner, was playing this one, and I'm noticing something similar to NF5; the Soviet fighters in the initial sweep are not engaging at all. My two F-16s up on the initial CAP were able to fly straight through the formations of Mig-29s spitting Sidewinders without drawing any fire.

OK, I'll take a look and try and give it a quick fix.

B

Edit: OK gave this a quick clean up using the same techniques as used in Bardufoss Blues. I find that some of the things I was doing early on to make the game challenging, have been overtaken by the amazing growth of the game itself.

Hope this makes it a bit tougher.

Gunner, just wrapped this one up (finally! crazy few weeks here) and really enjoyed it. Here are a few notes:

-special messages seemed to be carried over from Bardufoss Blues rather than being intended for this scenario
-'G3 Land update' special message didn't come through
-Soviet warships never fired their AShMs even though my ships were in range and detected, not sure if this is as intended
-the Su-33 strike against STANAVFORLANT was easy for numerically inferior F-16s to swat away because the Soviets didn't shoot back
-some Soviet aircraft (both bombers and fighters) were crashing on their own, probably due to some issues with aerial refueling
-77 and 79 TFS are available from the beginning, not sure if this is as intended. They really alleviate the pressure up north and I think you could do with just one squadron

I think that's it. Another great scenario. I'll be posting the AAR soon, then on to Keflavik Capers!

OK, Thanks to AR's points here is Ver 3.3

Enjoy

This is also going to the communitiy pack as an update
