Oshawott (Russia) vs. Stef78 (Axis)
Decided to do an AAR because it is an interesting game. Never done an AAR so please be patient. Focus will be on combat results. I did not really take many screenshots for the first 9 turns so this AAR will start on T10. The settings of this game are shown below.
This is a server game. We are both using version 1.07.15.

RE: Oshawott (Russia) vs. Stef78 (Axis)
A brief synopses of what has happened during the first 9 turns:
In the north Riga was bypassed. I left a division and 8th Army in the city. Attacks by two German infantry divisions failed. Later, a counterattack against two German security regiments failed as well. Once the Axis finished the rail line over the Dvina I decided to evacuate the city.
Edit: I just remembered that I also was able to break the northern pocket. This slowed his infantry down.
Nothing unusual in the center. No additional Panzer Corps was diverted to AGN. I was unable to break the center pocket.
In the South my opponent did the Lvov pocket and if I remember correctly he diverted 2 Panzer Corps south. I was able to break the Lvov pocket without combat but of course it was resealed.
I set up two counterattack armies on T1. 27th army in the north and 16th army at the land bridge. A lot of armor went to the land bridge.
There was fierce fighting with numerous counterattacks all across the map. On T9 we ended up at a line stretching from Oranienbaum - Shimsk - Nevel - Vyazma - Kaluga - Orel - Kursk - Charkov - Dnepopretovsk - Zaporozhye - Lower Dnepr with a breakthrough north of Dnepopretovsk. Odessa was not captured and a rifle division remains in the city surrounded by Romanian infantry divisions. Attempts by the Axis to bomb the port have failed.
The tank losses during the first couple of turns are always enormous especially if you counterattack. The following screenshot from T3 shows just that.

RE: Oshawott (Russia) vs. Stef78 (Axis)
I start counter-attacking early and focus on combats that I am guaranteed to win. I try not to abuse the 1:1 = 1:2 rule but sometimes it just happens. It is a huge advantage for the Russians!
I had six counter-attacks on T5. One of these attacks pushed the Axis tanks back over the Dnepr. The same happened on T6 but the next turn a number of divisions of 5th Army were surrounded.

T10 - North
The Axis tries to push through rough terrain. I still have south of lake Ilmen covered because you never know.

T10 - Center
Over the next couple of turns I will attack some of the units in the square over and over again. I have my best troops hear (16th and 13th army) and he has some of his worst.

T10 - Tula
This is the first real crises turn for the Russians because Tula, Kharkov and Stalino are all threatened at the same time. Her at Tula he has most of his armor of AGC.

T10 - South
A breakthrough in the south. I make a bad mistake. The star shows the one hex I need to capture to cut off all his tanks. I have many cavalry in the vicinity. But I decide to do my attacks first. At the end I realized that I moved all my cavalry with the necessary MPs. Duh!

T10 - Crimea and Odessa
Odessa has not been captured. He tried to bomb the port but realized quickly that it would take forever to bomb a level 15 port to cut off supply to the troops. I will remain in the city and plan to reinforce the troops there.

RE: Oshawott (Russia) vs. Stef78 (Axis)
Thx for this AAR, very interesting. I like the combats reports too.
For your screenshots could you turn on the level of fortifications. It's help to follow your defense play.[&o]

Yes, I will do this starting on T15.
RE: Oshawott (Russia) vs. Stef78 (Axis)
good job with counter attacking the axis spearheads. its turn 10/11 and it realy seems that you are able to hold leningrad what will make your job easier in the blizzard and later on.
you seem to have also a good c&c because of the high modified CV of your attacking units.

I don't think I will be able to. Leningrad will probably fall during the snow turns. It's OK with me. Not getting Leningrad is a game killer for the Axis. I held Leningrad in my last game against BigAnorak and it was really bad for the Axis.

I think I've figured out the combat system. It's mostly numerical superiority and morale that counts. Stay tuned and you will see some interesting results.

T11 - North (display of defensive CV will start on T15)
If you compare this with the last picture of the northern front you will see that he has shifted his mobile units south. I am not sure what exactly he will do so I go over to a carpet defense.
