Operation Sealion Historial Deployment

Post by vakarr »

It is not possible to do a fully historical deployment as planned for Operation Sealion on day one. VIII Corps is missing one division - 6 Mountain Division- and X Corps (which was just an HQ staff) is missing entirely. There are also no armoured forces included in the divisions or available as separate battalions. Another major problem is that only 60 shipping points are allowed on day one, but you need at least 80 shipping points to transport four corps.

To do the landings as planned historically, you must:
1. allow two days for the initial landings (this is OK as it was thought the 2nd echelon might not finish landing until the end of the second day).
2. Land the troops as following:
Turn 1 - (left to right)
Between Eastbourne and Hastings: XXXVIII Corps, with 26 Div on the left and 34 Div on the right
Rye Bay (east of Hastings): VII Corps, with 1 Mtn Div on the left and 7 Divi on the right
Dungeness to west of Folkestone: XIII Corps, with 35 Div on the left and 17 Div on the right
North-West of Folkestone: 7 Flieger Div

Turn 2 -
Between Brighton and Eastbourne: VIII Corps, with 28 Div on the left and 8 Div on the right
1 Artillery and 1 Engineer unit, probably in the XIII Corps area (the main focus of the landings) or in the VIII Corps area, to make up for the missing 6 Mtn Div
North-West of Folkestone, on Lympne airfield - 22 Air-landed Div (probably this should arrive later but it seems reasonable to include it now to make up for the missing 6 Mtn Div and X Corps HQ)

Turns 3-5:
On these turns you can only land Engineer, Artillery, and Flak units, representing the arrival of the third echelon of the previous divisions

Turn 6 and subsequent turns:
Now you can start landing the second wave (its a bit early but you don't have enough shipping points to do it as planned and you would also have the equivalent of one panzer division already landed if the support troops were allowed with the first wave) . Land XV Corps on the left, west of Hastings and V corps plus XXXXI corps on the right. XIV Corps didn't exist but its component divisions did. they were part of XLI and XV Corps so you can land XIV corps with the second wave. After them you can land the third wave, consisting of XXXXII Corps & IV Corps on the right, and XXIV on the left.

Turn 1 is shown below:
