"Don not refuel" not working on CS Convoys

Post by Encircled »

Hi all,

Got a bit of a weird one in that some (not all) of my Japanese CS Convoys are ignoring the "Do not refuel" command.

I was under the impression that even if the smallest ships in the convoy (normally escorts) would refuel from the other ships in the convoy provided there was enough to reach the destination.

I'm probably wrong, but anybody had this?

In my experience CS convoys refuel at both ends of the trip no matter what's set. If there's something I'm missing I'd like to hear about it.

Never tested this, but CS is special, it forces the convoy to cruise, limits selections. This is likely one of them that it defaults on.

Ships that are low on fuel and part of a TF are only refuelled from ships within the same TF if

- no external fuel source is present with the capability to provide fuel and no other TF is present with excess fuel
- or 'do not refuel' is set

'do not refuel' setting will never prevent refuelling action within the TF, it just prioritizes refuelling methods, and it will not prevent that TF from refuelling another TF in need of fuel.

A CS convoy - from what I noticed - will always draw fuel as if 'full refuel' has been set in case it is set to 'do not refuel'. So it will always draw from an external fuel source if present.

Also, the other two (minimum/tactical) refuel options do not seem to work. I think this is because to calculate the minimal (or tactical) fuel required the engine needs to know the distance to destination. As destination is not set when a CS in need of fuel arrives at a port, the engine might treat distance to destination as if it was 9999 and so does a full refuel.

Not sure if I am correct on this, so treat that reply with a grain of salt until some devs chime in. [:)]

Cheers all

I think I might have to stop each CS convoy, detach the escorts, refuel the escorts and then reattach them, or even go as far as cancelling each CS convoy on its destination to avoid excessive fuel use.

Thats a lot of clicks, but if it saves a shed load of fuel, then its worth it![:)]
