Who is your favorite .....?

Post by aaatoysandmore »

Designer of all time? and today?

Sid Meier really stands out here. In his early years of programming and design (Pirates, Railroad Tycoon, Civilization, Alpha Centauri, Civil War series) no one could top him. But, as the years went by stuff he made or had a part in seemed to fluster away in quality and challenge.

It's hard to pick a prominent designer today but I'd have to say Arjuna of Command Ops fame. Very good work and very challenging gameplay.

Christopher Park (Arcen Games). The guy keeps churning out brilliant and original games across multiple genres which somehow, AI War apart, never seem to get the recognition and sales they deserve.

I would add Frank Hunter's name to the list also. His designs never fail to be interesting and enjoyable IMO. Agree GG as well, and would agree Sid Meier's games have declined in quality over the years. I am not familiar with Arcen Games so am off to check them out.

Well the one that made the most impression on me is John Carmack. I mean when Doom came into this world it would never be the same again.

He is now involved in the Oculus Vr development.

Three names immediately come to the head of the all-time list: Roger Keating & Ian Trout for PC games, and Jim Dunnigan for board wargames.

Definitely Yves Saint Laurent. An icon of style, he finally made ready-to-wear acceptable and introduced many non-European cultural references to fashion [:'(]

The Philippes of Ageod (Philippe Thibaut and Philippe Malacher). The adaptive game engine (AGE) is my favorite.

(Also,I have to agree with many of the others that were mentioned.)

... And Vic R for Advanced Tactics.

Ditto, right next to the other great ones such as Norm Koger, John Tiller. Vic made an absolute gem of a game.

I would have to go with Sid during his Microprose days. For me, during the late 80s and early 90s, just about everything microprose released was good, and a significant portion of those games Sid had a hand in. I don't think he was very involved in the games that bore his name after microprose.

Based on hours played...and hours...and hours....and hours - then it has to be Sid Meier.
