combat?

Piercing Fortress Europa is a new game from veteran game designer Frank Hunter, which covers the campaigns of the Western Allies from July, 1943 through the end of April, 1945 in Sicily and Italy. Each area has its own map and time scale to best represent the campaigns for Sicily and Italy and the player is offered complete freedom, limited only by a historical order of battle and logistics model, to plan his operations and explore all of the many “what ifs” that the Italian theater has to offer.

combat?

Post by Toby42 »

I really don't understand the combat system. Several allied units attack a fortified Axis unit. Result says that attack failed. But the results also say that the Allied unit suffered no losses or disruptions. Axis unit suffered 5 losses and 8 disruptions and retreats. This is winning a combat?

Well, if you do not "officially" win the combat, you cannot advance into the hex, which is kind of a big thing at times.

So the only negative result of "Attack Failed" is you don't get the hex? I don't understand the rationale behind that? You (the attacker) lose the battle, but suffer no losses. The defender wins the battle but loses the hex and sometimes is destroyed because it's strength falls to zero?

Treale, that's a pretty bizarre result. I'd be happy to run your save and look at it. Was it 1.0 or 1.01?

Is it possible that those losses are the result of Allied airpower on ground support?

It was with 1.01. I was trying out the new changes with the Sicily Scenario. I played as the Axis against the Allied AI. And no I don't have any saves. I restarted several times after those results, so the saves are lost. I started another scenario,(Southern Italy). If it happens during play I'll send you a save!

I don't remember it happening with 1.0, but it does happen with 1.01? I'm glad that someone else has noticed this...

I get "attack failed" on every battle whether I am attacking or defending.

Yep....30 to 1 strength ratio....attack fails; then at the start of the next axis turn the defending Italian unit is eliminated...

If I remember correctly, the attacking units don't get the attacked hex? They retreat back to their original hexes? I think...

Yeah no doubt Frank will fix it, but I just got done waiting for the patch to get out, then this. Oh well, patience is a virtue. I'll be virtuous for awhile longer.[;)]

On the combat screen, any ideas what the numbers in parentheses' are? The ones next to the unit ID's? Also ground support 1/1?
