I just did the same thing with the Idaho, who had taken 3 torpedoes two days previously. She surely isn't happy.[:D]

RE: Sometimes even a blind squirrel ...
Personally, I've always been a big fan of the ROs. Why not? [&o]

Not bad. How were you able to track all that data?
RE: Sometimes even a blind squirrel ...
I write down the notes on every attack within my day-to-day note taking and then add them to a a file I keep long-term. About every 4 months I go into the 'ships sunk' report and see what has happened to ships that may or may not have sunk. It is a bit tedious but I like to see how well the old SS Fleet is doing...

RE: Sometimes even a blind squirrel ...
I don't really fear the RO torpedo. It just does not have the killing power of the long lance. There is a very good chance that your solo hit on the Carolina on did only marginal damage. I had one RO hit the Saratoga with two shots and she only had 9 flotation and some minor engine damage. Not even enough for me to stand her down from the operation.

RE: Sometimes even a blind squirrel ...
The two USN DDs probably would have done better by themselves. Should have left the BB Oklahoma in port.

I think he pretty much had to bring the BB along, as I've been showing some serious firepower up there myself. It's just that my biggies weren't there that particular night.

Night Time Surface Combat, near Amchitka Island at 158,52, Range 1,000 Yards
Night combat, 1000 yards to enemy, slow BB, probably poor visibility
Dream conditions for Long Lance attack. BB was dead before first shot was fired
