It seems to be common practice to simplify things so that the public can understand what the superior reporter writes about.

As a kid, I recall London Buses often being used to put size into perspective.

maybe old times people talked someting like - this river is 3 mammothes wide or something like that.

and soon we say that my new car is 20 ipads long...
