Why the two sizes of arrows?

I believe it's because one of your horses died and when you bought a new one it doesn't get the full benefit of speed until it races one time. Simulates training needed to integrate with the other horses.

Makes sense. A mouse over message would be a helpful
addition to explain. Not a priority.

When this happens there is a message scrolling at the bottom info bar, something like:
"team with fresh replaced horses suffer speed penalization during one race"

Oh, I've seen that message, I've just never associated it with the small arrow. Good to know!
