stay at sea/return to base lockups
Since the last patch, the game has frequently locked up at the end of various stay at sea or return to base phases. Usually, reloading the game fixes the problem and I'm able to continue. Now I have one that locks up even after a clean reload.
This save game is the US stay at sea phase. Load the game, and end the phase. The game will not move on to the next phase.

RE: stay at sea/return to base lockups
After a bunch of reloads from different points and trying different things, I was able to progress by going back to the Japanese stay at sea phase and keeping most of the Japanese navy at sea. This leads me to believe that the lockup wasn't coming from the US stay at sea phase, but from trying to begin the Japanese return to base phase, since the US was the last player in the stay at sea phase. Maybe that will help isolate the problem.

More info, also seeming to point to the problem being with Japan. The Japanese fleet in the Bismark Sea had sailed out of Truk, but the US captured Truk during the turn. I'm thinking now that the game was trying to calculate legal places for the fleet to return and got caught in some kind of loop.

And now the game is locking up at the end of the Japanese RTB phase, not fixable by reloading. Yet another game that I can't progress any further. Maybe one day I'll actually be able to finish a game.

RE: stay at sea/return to base lockups
I had a similar issue in my game. Got stuck transitioning from the last allied stay at sea phase to the first axis RTB phase.
Multiple reloads didn't help. Found out it had something to do with the Italian fleet even though it was the German phase that wouldn't start. I ended up fixing it by designating just one Italian ship to stay at sea then undo. Maybe it refreshes something don't know but maybe you could try that
Another idea: Also prevent the turn from ending by adjusting the end of turn die rolls. Then doing a naval for everyone and returning stuff to base before the end of turn.

Strange. After restoring your saved game (and restoring my own screen layout) I could end the US stay at sea phase without any problem. I've tried a couple of times, but every time I could press the "end phase" button normally...

Dunno what to tell you... still won't work on my end. I can push the button to end the phase just fine, but then it just sits there with the spinning cursor trying to load the next phase until I give up and force close the game.

Reboot your system and see what happens if you than try to restore the game. Perhaps this is the way to proceed.

My system was rebooted shortly before trying it again this morning. It's not my system. Perhaps it's related to the fact that I still don't get the Japanese build point for the US even though many others do? No idea.

It might be... Not nice...
Centuur - just a hunch. Can you send Zartacle your screen lay-out for him to try it out? That is a difference, and we know the the place of the Main form sometimes can cause difficulties.

Good idea... I'll send him a PM with the file attached. Maybe this is indeed the reason why he is having all these problems...
I can't put the file in a PM (it refuses to be send). I need a real mail adress to send it to Mr. Zartacla.

Or perhaps you could upload it to this thread?

That's even better... Let it know to everyone that I'm not good with computer at all... [;)]
Here is my screen layout. If Mr. Zartacla would be so kind to use it and see if that's where his problems are, we all would appreciate it...
It's a long shot, but better a long one than none at all...

Darn. Could you upload your screen lay-out for Centuur to try? If he can still press the end-button we have to look for the problem in comparing your systems (memory first I would say).
I will try your gamesave as well when I have more time.

RE: stay at sea/return to base lockups
pretty sure you're barking up the wrong tree. I'm not the only person having this issue, so unless there has been a rash of hardware failures among MWIF players, this isn't a hardware problem.
It happened to me again tonight in another game. This time I reloaded 4 times before getting it to work. The 4th time worked. I did a few things differently in the 4th pass, any one of which might have helped - or maybe none of them did and it just worked. I used the drop down menu to end the phase instead of the end of phase button. Prior to ending the phase, I hit the button to take me to the next unit, even though there were no more units to move. And I moved a unit into port, hit undo, and sent it back to port again (as suggested earlier in this thread). I can't imagine why any of those things would have fixed the problem, however.

RE: stay at sea/return to base lockups
The thing I'm not getting is the fact that some have a lot of freezed games in all kind of phases I (and a lot of others too) haven't got. There has to be something different between the two systems (be it hardware or software related). I can't explain it otherwise. Look f.e. at the Japanese build point not being send. Some systems have got it and others don't. Well, I guess it is up to Steve to work this out, because I don't know what's wrong at all...
And I agree that it isn't the screen layout. If that was the case, you should have been able to end the phase using mine.

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the game and then load the latest patch. Sometimes overlying several patchs in a row can mess things up on a particular system. Just a suggestion [:)]
