My Map Remakes thread

Post by Plodder »

I've decided to consolidate my various map remakes into this thread. The previous announcement threads with screenshots are here:

Red Storm 1 Remake
Red Storm 2 Remake
Red Storm 9 Remake

I'll announce any new maps here. All my maps are available in this folder at mediafire:

https://www.mediafire.com/folder/xey7vn2k10z1r/FCRS_Maps

The maps I've completed (with direct download links) and corresponding scenarios are:

Red Storm 1 - A Time to Dance <----- REVISED V1.03
Red Storm 2 - Tutorial & Blackhorse <----- REVISED V1.03
Red Storm 3 - Head On <----- V1.01
Red Storm 5 - 12 Bravo <----- V1.01
Red Storm 6 - A Test of Wills <----- V1.01
Red Storm 7 - Dawn's First Light <----- V1.02
Red Storm 8 - Ate Up <----- V1.02
Red Storm 9 - Pied Piper & Hell in Hamelin <----- REVISED V1.03
Red Storm 10 - KG Rommel <----- V1.01
Red Storm 11 - Witch's Cauldron <----- NEW V1.03
Red Storm 12 - Rhino <----- REVISED V1.03
Red Storm 13 - Hell's Crossroad <----- V1.01
Red Storm 14 - Strike First <----- REVISED V1.03
Red Storm 15 - Thor's Hammer <----- V1.03

If a map has been modified you'll see a REVISED with the version number next to it. The current standard is V1.03 which RS 1, 2, 9, 11, 12, 14 and 15 are the only ones so far.V1.03 has new urban textures and German spellings for names while V1.02 had a couple of improvements and adjustments:shading has been added to bridges and highway signs, and I've adjusted the shading of the elevations and forests. I'm going to go back to the older maps and hopefully upgrade them to V1.03 standards soon.

I've also modded the victory point markers which are now included with the 2.04 patch.

Also in the mediafire folder is another folder with the Paint Shop Pro 8 settings, swatches and fonts I use to make the maps. I've also include a short pdf on how I use the settings. There is a sample map (Red Storm 9)in .pspimage format for you to look at as well. Feel free to have a go. These are a bit out of date though as I've improved some techniques. I'll hopefully update these someday.

Here's a preview of Red Storm 15:

A question for all of us less talented, how long does it take you to create one of these style maps?

To give other modders an idea at the time required.

Thanks.

Good Hunting.

It's a bit hard to calculate, as I have 3 young children, work split shifts and take frequent breaks when I work, but a rough estimate would be in the range of 12-20 hours per map.

Will do.[:)] The order I'm doing them in is by scenario size, so I'm now up to the mediums. My next map is Red Storm 3, used in Head On and the WG Campaign. It might take a while as it has a lot of elevations and forests.

Plodder - be warned - just got some really nasty popups from MediaFire.

And that's with popups disabled.

Virus checker stopped it, but be warned.

That's odd. Never had that problem before with them, and I've been using that site for years. Thanks for the warning, I'll look into it.

I'm on the home stretch with Red Storm 3. I should have it finished in the next couple of days, I've just got towns & cities and labels to go;
