A first episode filled with back-story explained through exposition dialogue serves as an introduction to a bunch of personality-lacking people of mysterious intentions and surprisingly bad choices. Our main hero John Silver hides during the entirety of the episode some pages of a book he can't interpret but he's aware it'll cost his life if found in his possession, yet he decides to explain everything about them to the first malevolent looking prostitute asking about it.

Meanwhile, Captain Flint can't seem to be able to take proper control of his own ship for obvious reasons; he is incompetent enough not to punish one of his subordinates after being threatened at gunpoint by him (reasons of said threatening, by the way, remaining as a mystery to me) and has to face a riot on his own ship, barely winning a fight after which gives a speech about finding a treasure which happened to be an absolute lie, and will probably cost him more riots in the future.

In contrast, a gorgeous looking production value will allow you to keep watching as long as you don't put much thought into what's happening.

I think I will continue to watch Master and Commander for the nth time. [:'(]

Have not seen it. But won't watch if the women have been surgically enhanced. You all know, that I am a stickler for historical accuracy..[;)]

I watched one ep. Probably not going back. Lesbian sex isn't rare if you have pay cable. The ships were not bad, not great. The dialogue and premise was horrible. But everybody living in the main cast trailers sure was purty. [:)]

You know you can stop watching now, they just did it to get the ratings up. You'll never see it again.[:D]

Why don't chicks dig boy/boy stuff? One of the imponderables of the universe. Do you know any male (aside from the gay sort) that doesn't like girl/girl action? On second thought, include the gay sort. Anyone?

You know I gotta remind myself that this is (this site I mean, not the show) a family show. This conversation could end in the crapper real quick. I can't post what I'm thinking.[:D]
