aerial mine laying operations

Post by sven6345789 »

Hi,
I would like to know how you undertake aerial mine-laying. After doing some search i found that the historic minelaying operations around the main Islands of Japan ("Operation Starvation" ) took place from an altitude of about 5000 feet ( 1500-2500 meters) by specialized B-29 groups.

How do you do it in the game?
Bougainville, November 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. It rained today.

Select AC to do the mine drop, select "City Attack" if the AC is capable of supporting and there are appropriate mines available the option to "mine port" will be active (lower left).

Not sure dontra...thought I saw a forum post some time ago with a date but not finding it. Pretty sure I've used them as early as late '42 as AFB. Don't recall the mine type #(s) used and they are not listed under the AC capabilities (in tracker), went into a save from my current PBEM and the type used is not listed when you assign a mission. Am sure you see which ones (and can then check when available) are used on the combat results. It "may" have been Mk13 (just a guess) which as an avail date of 12/42. Perhaps we'll get a post from someone with a better memory or knowledge of where to confirm.

My tests show that under beta mine lying operations are immune to CAP. (bombers only, CAP is able to intercept escorts)

In response to that type of query I have seen a post of a mine laying operation being intercepted. It was bombes only, and it was intercepted.

I suspect the reason your tests showed no intercept is that the chances of intercept are low.

They must be very low as it was mine lying of Tokyo
CAP was something like 1000+ fighters flying 50% CAP between 1000 and 20ft. Not mention Tokyo have at lest 20 radars

You can mine at night just as effectively as you can in day. Why fly during the day then? Americans can only use the MK 13 mine for air mining. Once it is in production any multi engine bomber can mine.
