New version of GMap.Net, how import maps without legends?

Post by Blas de Lezo »

Hello,
I'm trying to get some overlays for a new scenario using the latest version of GMap.net, but the maps imported show in the upper left and bottom right corners their respective a coordinates ...

Does anyone how to get rid of the coordinates?

Hey Blas [:D]

Would you mind being a beta tester for this modified version of GMap.Net?

I think I got rid of the label/legend/scale. Plus it produces .pgw files instead of .pngw. Plus 'make worldfile' should be checked by default.

It doesn't seem to like to close, so you might need to close it from your task manager when you want to close it.

Hope you find it to your liking [:)]

UPDATED pngw => pgw issue fixed!
UPDATED AGAIN!! Fixed the new issue, sorry about that guys!

First test:

Nice touch having the map centered in Vancouver... [;)]

Everything works as adverticed, you have got rid of the label/legend/scale, and the 'make worldfile' is checked by default. [&o][&o]

I had no problem to close it....[:'(]

But it produces "false" .pgw files, in my case it created a .pngw.pgw file (using both extension) that CMANO doesn´t rocognize... Deleting the .pngw part of the multiextension fixes the issue.

Thanks man![:D][:D]

Hey Baloogan, just downloaded your version and it is working fine for me, too.

I have a question/problem for any willing to assist:

I have tried to make overlays using the instructions in the CMANO rulebook and have had success, but not with my own Google Map pics. What I mean is, I map it on GMaps and get that software's coordinates and map PNG file, and it shows up fine in CMANO. It is a large file (for example, the PNG image I have of Keflavik right now is 6.45Mb), but it overlays well within the game software. My problem is, when I go to Google Maps and zoom into the same area (i.e. Keflavik), do a screenshot of it, and then trim it to make my new PNG, it is laid onto the map in CMANO but it is minuscule and not to scale with what the region should be like in my GMaps picture. Also, my Google capture will be like 188Kb - much smaller file size and less memory consuming, which is what I want.

So, how do I fix this? Am I making sense with the above? Help is appreciated!

The pgw file tells command where to place the image. This pgw file is a world file: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_file Lines 1 and 4 in that file control the scale of the image.
Your image most likely is much smaller than the one produced by GMap in terms of pixels, you could find the ratio between the sizes, and then multiply (or divide) lines 1 and 4 in the world file to suit it. [:)]

Glad to hear that its working for you [:D] I've been meaning to make this modification to GMap for a while...

Is there an updated for it? The current version of GMAP made Google Satellite and some particular map views unusable anymore.

Rory, I've been using this for a while now and just recently it stopped working.. when I boot it up I get the following error: From GMap.NET --- No internet connection available, going to cache only mode.

I get this error whether I am at work (MCWL Wargame Division) or at home so it looks like a problem with GMAP itself. Have you or anybody else used this recently and been able to get it to work?

Hi Bil,

The problem isn't with GMap, but rather the services Gmap relies upon I think. This tool, and overlays, came up internally in a meeting today so we're aware of the situation. Please email the pro tech support email address so we can properly track this issue.

I made this modified version of GMap before being hired by Matrix Games, so I don't think it's officially supported, but our pro tech support guys will try to figure this out for you.

Thank you,
Rory
