Just Purchased Uncommon Valor

Post by Schanilec »

I just purchased 'Uncommon Valor'. Should be here in a couple of days (weather permitting[:'(]). A couple of questions: Will the game work on Vista? and do I need to load the latest patch?

Thanks in advance,

Schani

Works for me on Windows7, shd work on VISTA. (You can try the COMPATIBILITY MODE function in VISTA if you need to.) The last patch for UV was several years ago (version 2.5 or something like that), so your copy should be up to date.

Excellent! I kinda knew the answers, but I thought I'd ask.

Thank you much,

I run the game on a laptop using Vista home edition without any issues and WITPAE. Laptop is a few years old, the wife got it free with a mobile phone so the specs are not great. I really enjoyed UV and wish the full game scenario was built into Admirals Edition.

+1. Old WITP had the similar "UV" campaign, and I played it a lot.

Marc, there are some "oddities" in UV, compared to what we're used to. Bombing troops with B-17s for a month will turn them into extremely elite crews who will hit anything. Also, lots of the terrain is impassible to troops, as I found out landing on the other side of Luganville. (they became the targets for B-17s and everything else. Whirriways from Oz were making a vacation trip there to take part in the fun)

I wrapped up a campaign with my brother last year. Since he was new, I didn't want to discourage him and made no effort to take PM at the start. Big mistake, as he caught on quickly...

Thank you guys all very helpful. Yes it is to bad the UV scenario wasn't included in WitP-AE. Jeff and I just started the Guadalcanal scenario, should be great fun.

Are there any other anomalies that I should be aware of?

I've recently installed UV on both my newish laptop and my newish desktop PC's, both running Win8.1 64bit, 8GB memory.
The game is extremely slow on both systems, to the point of being unplayable. No compatibility setting I try works. I think everything worked OK on my previous desktop rig (also win8_64 but 4GB memory) (or was that when I booted into XP??).
I need to play around a bit more with this and that to try and get UV to work but I'm not too hopeful.
Kinda strange as, from the posts above, everyone else seems OK using current day OS's.
WITPAE works just fine.

I have to run UV in windowed mode with Windows 8.1 otherwise there is major lag when trying to scroll or interact with the map. Make a shortcut to the actual game (not the launcher) and add -w at the end of the target.

"C:\Matrix Games\Uncommon Valor\uncommonvalor.exe" -w

Any other suggestions. I've tried the "-w" mode n a Win 8 machine and it still crashes after the third intro video.
