Question on energy collection and retrofit

Post by Antmf_slith »

Is it worth putting these on ships like scouts and contr ships as well as bases etc? And once you do is there a way to tell if in fact it has been added to your existing design once it has been retrofitted?

Since they only work while stationary it only makes sense to put them on ships that spend a good amount of time standing still. So anything except freighters and explorers really. Not sure what you mean by telling if they have been added.

Yes, when selecting a ship in the window to the lower left, you can see the design name for that ship. As well click on the design name to see the build out of that design.
As to Energy collectors, they only function while an object is not moving so are best used on things that spend long periods not moving. Bases and Ports are obvious, as well as things like system fleet ships. While ships that are built as needed, such as Colony Ships that are built travel and land would gain no benefit.

One thing to consider about solar collectors on war ships: once you have characters on the ship / in the fleet, leaving the ships stationary will influence the characters to have poor skills. Keep the ships moving, paroling, etc. So, early ships (before you have ship captains, admirals) can use the collectors and sit at a planet. But once command gets involved - might as well design your warships with out the collectors.
