Distant Worlds: The political parody MOD!

I am really liking this game, and I can that people enjoy making some mods for it with new races. Being someone who really loves both 4x games, modding and politics, I came up with this idea of a political parody mod for the game.

Basically, each mainstream political ideology is represented as a race (all of them will be humanoid) and given "appropriate characteristics".

This mod is intended to be mainly for laughs, so please don't take it too seriously!

At the moment the fallowing ideologies have been chosen to be put into the mod (you are free to suggest more if you want!):

-Consevatism
-Liberalism
-Social democracy
-socialism
-communism
-fascism
-nazism


The ideologies them self's and how they will be described in the galacticwiki can be found lower in this post.

At the moment I haven't filled out all of the details for these races/ideologies, but this is what I have come up with so far. I intend to work on finding some pictures to use as leader avatars tomorrow, though I don't know if I will be able to find any that aren't copyrighted. Perhaps you can help me with the art?

Anyways...

What do you think? Do you feel my mod idea has some merit and/or potential?

Conservatives:

Empire name: The Conservative Dominion
Government style: Republic

Description:

Conservatives are cold and cruel creatures lacking empathy. They believe that individuals must live

boring and sterile lives free of video games, rap music, and fun sex without consequence. They are

also fanatical defenders of the status-quo, believing that all and any social change is evil by

default and that any heretics found guilty of preaching any such nonsense should be burned at the

stake for crimes against society. In spite of this however, conservatism still appears to come with

some advantages. While hateful towards change, conservatives are (typically) better with money then

most, and their hatred against birth control results in higher then typical birth rate.

Their social and economical conservatism means that they aren't really friendly towards anybody, but

hate some people more or less then others. They believe in defending their own nation and people

first, and naturally dislike other peoples.

Race bias:

-15% for fascists
-10% for liberals
-30% for social-democrats
-40% for socialists
-50% for communists
-20% for nazis

Reproduction rate: Quite high (+20%)
Intelligence: Quite intelligent
Aggression: Quite aggressive
Caution: Very cautious
Friendliness: Quite unfriendly
Loyalty: Normal

Bonus abilities:

-Fiscal conservatism: +15% colony income
-No birth control: +20% population growth
-Military Industrial complex: -15% maintenance for ships, units and bases
-Naturally distrustful: 10% bonus for spies and an extra spy

Penalties:

-Hostile towards foreigners: Will frequently suffer from the xenophobia event (no new immigrants can be accepted into colonies for a long period of time), and very rarely the xenophobic riots event (other races are exterminated at a random colony for a short period of time).

-Isolationists: One some rare occasions, the "first contact" penalty for other races will be reset.

Resource bonuses:

-Gold grants a 10% income and happiness bonus in colonies with access to it.
-Steel grands a 20% development bonus in colonies that mine it.

Victory conditions
-hold home planet 20%
-have the largest population 20%
-earn the most trade income 20%
-make most treatest 20%
-have longest lasting free trade agreement 20%

Liberals:

Description:

Liberals are all about fun and profit. They don't care about tradition, war or morality. All they

want are the sweet greens (money) and some sex and drugs to buy with it. Basically, liberals are

money loving bastards with no morality of any description. This uncontrolled love for wealth and the

finer elements of human society means that they been able to create a very rich and a happy society.

This hasn't come without its costs however. Because of how much liberals value individual liberty

and despise everything that could stand in the way between them self's and their sex and drugs,

liberals have become famous across the galaxy for being cowards unwilling to go to war for any

reason. In addition the open and trusting nature of their society means that they can be far too

trusting of others, as they would probably be willing to invite the devil himself to visit if he

asked kindly enough and put on a big smile. Their love for sex free of consequence also means that

the use of birth control is extremely common, and thus their birth rate is amongts the lowest in the

galaxy.

Their social liberalism and social conservatism means they have a mixed relationship with other

parties. Their economcial and social liberalism puts them at odds with statists such as fascists and

socialists, while their right-wing economical believes allows them to have an uneasy co-existence

with conservatives and the like.

Reproduction rate: Quite low (-20%)
Intelligence: Slightly stupid
Aggression: Extremely passive
Caution: Extremely reckless
Friendliness: Extremely friendly
Loyalty: Very untrustworthy

Race bias:

-50% for fascists
-10% for Conservatives
-25% for social-democrats
-40% for socialists
-50% for communists
-50% for nazis

Bonus abilities:

-Economical liberalism bonus 1: +20% colony income
-Economical liberalism bonus 2: -20% star base maintenance
-Social liberalism: +20% happiness
-Indvidual creativity: +15% research speed

Penalties:

-Hatred towards war: +20% troop and ship maintenance
-Love for birthcontrol: -20% reproduction rate

Government style: Democracy

Social-democrats:

Description:

Social-democrats are big government tossers who believe that everyone should just stop working and

feed of the welfare state instead like some economical bloodsucker. They believe in a mix of

capitalism and socialism, preaching a free market economy under the overwatch of a big government.

Their social welfare systems can result in improved standards of living for some, and their free

education programs make their people more educated then most. Their society isn't without its flaws

however, since the heavy regulation and government oversight can cause inefficiency. In addition,

people don't like it when their money is taken away from them the moment they start to actually make

a lot of it in the name of "social equality".

Their light form of socialism means that they are friendly towards other more traditional

socialists, while naturally disliking right-wingers such as liberals and conservatives.

Reproduction rate: Quite high (+20%)
Intelligence: Quite stupid
Aggression: Slightly passive
Caution: Quite reckless
Friendliness: Quite friendly
Loyalty: Quite loyal

Fascists

Description:

Fascists are far-right extremists who believe that "might makes right" and that only the strong can

and/or deserve to survive. They believe in what they call "the people's community", which is a

strong national community overseen by an all-powerful state which itself is controlled by an all-

powerful leader. They believe that in order for nations to survive they must grow and expand, or

else be contained and destroyed. As a result, fascists are known for being aggressive warmongers

seeking to invade and enslave other nations almost every time they get the chance. This hasn't made

them popular amongst others in the galaxy.

Fascists are the more "moderate" cousins of the nazis, and thus they are natual allies with each

other (well, for as long as it takes them to enslave or destroy everybody else anways).

Reproduction rate: Normal (+20%)
Intelligence: Very intelligent
Aggression: Very aggressive
Caution: Very cautious
Friendliness: Very unfriendly
Loyalty: Very undependable

Race bias:

-15% for Conservatives
-50% for liberals
-50% for social-democrats
-50% for socialists
-50% for communists
+50% for nazis

Bonus abilities:

-Welfare state: +20% reproduction rate
-Fascist corporatism: Construction cost reduced by 15%
-People's community: +25 happiness
-National mobalization: Cost of ships and bases is reduced by 30%

Penalties:

-Crushed individual liberty: -15% colonal income
-Enslavers: Aliens assimilate 70% slower

Government style: Despotism

Nazis:

Description:

Nazism is an extreme variant of fascism. Like their fascist relatives, nazis believe in a people's

community headed by an all-powerful state and leader. What seperates the nazis from the fascists

however are their extreme (if not comical) levels of racism. Nazis consider them self's to be "de

ubermunch", or "the master race". They consider them self's to be the world's purest, most greatest,

and most powerful race in the galaxy. And because they believe this, they feel that only they

deserve to exist in the galaxy...

Unlike fascists whom are more then happy to simply enslave their victims, the nazis go a step

further and believe that other races deemed "unworthy" should be outright exterminated. Ouch.

In addition to their extreme brutality and cruelty, they also somehow succeed in being even more

aggressive and even less trustworthy then their fascist counterparts. An impressive feet considering

that fascists aren't really known for being trustworthy to begin with...

Since the Nazis are the more extreme cousins of the fascists, they are natual allies with each other

(well, for as long as it takes them to enslave or destroy everybody else anways).

Intelligence: Very intelligent

-Ethnic nationalism: +40% reproduction rate

-Exterminators: Aliens assimilate 100% slower

Government style: Despotism

Socialists:

Socialism is the idea that the state should create lots of stuff out of thin air and then distribute

it to everybody.

To socialists, equality is what matters more then anything else in the universe. Yes, even more then

your well-being. Unlike the social-democrats, their slightly more reasonable counter-parts,

socialists believe that the economy should be controlled by the state rather then by private

parties. The laughable results of this have been obvious in every society where this has been

attempted, and yet for some reason socialists never seem to see the problem with draining

everybodies money away the moment people earn it like some giant money sucking vacum, and neither do

they seem to have any problems with the huge amounts of economical stagnation that their insane

economical policies bring. Like a famous socialist once said: "As long as nobody owns more money

then somebody else, everything will be fine and peachy!".

...or at least until the whole of society is thrown into a new dark age of poverty because nobody is

allowed to own anything. Oh well.

Because of their big government policies and social liberalism, socialists dislike right-wingers in

general, though they are ok with social-democrats at times. They can also share an acceptable

relationship with communists though they don't agree with their violent methods of bringing about

social change.

Communists:

Description:

Very violent versions of the socialists. Communists do not feel it is enough to simply create a

socialist state for their people to enjoy, but rather they seek to see capitalism itself destroyed

entirely! In order to accomplish this, communists believe in what they call "the dictatorship of the

proletariat" or "the dictatorship of the workers". Despite the noble sounding title, its really just

fascism by another name but with more shitty economical planning and higher taxes.

Like the fascists and nazis, communists are very aggressive and don't shy away from war with their

capitalist and fascist enemies. They enjoy somewhat warmer relations with the socialists, though.

Reproduction rate: Slightly high (+20%)
Intelligence: Very stupid
Aggression: Very aggressive
Caution: Very cautious
Friendliness: Very unfriendly
Loyalty: Very undependable

Race bias:

-50% for fascists

Libertarians and liberals are the same thing. They are just considered different in the US for some reason because nobody there likes to use the word socialism, so many socialist like peoople there just call them self's liberals.

Almost everywhere else however liberal and libertarian is the same thing.

As for anarchists, its an interesting idea though I am not sure how they should be implimented. How do you impliment a government that believes in no government?

EDIT: I noticed that the "socialist planning" bonus increased production time instead of reducing it. This error has been fixed.

I have lots of free time this weekend so I will be working on this mod a lot. I have already more or less finished the conservative faction.

Some things such as bonuses and penalties for the various factions will be different in the finished version then what is described for them in the OP so take that with a grain of salt. I have updated the OP with updated info on the conservatives as well as their "race portrait". I will probably post more stuff in this thread later this weekend.

I intend to update the information and post the race portrait for each faction one at a time until they are all finished.

You might want to think about adding another ideology - something like Evangelists or Fundamentalists.

They would have strict laws, a preferred govt type like fascism, they would pretty much have a negative bias toward everyone save for conservatives, they would be xenophobic, very expansionist, etc.

You get the idea, but you can't leave religion out of politics in the USA.

You get the idea, but you can't leave religion out of politics in the USA.

But this mod isn't suppose to be a parody about US politics, but rather politics in general. I don't think religion is really that great a political debate outside countries like the US.

It might make some sense to have some kind of a religious extremist party though. Perhaps a party that is suppose to represent religious nuts like the Westboro baptist church or Jihadists in general. I am not sure how I should represent such a party in the game however. What kind of government should it have for example? Theocracy isn't a government type in the game I am afraid, so I am not sure which government would fit them, or what their focus as a faction should be. Religion isn't really a gameplay element in Distant worlds.
