error reading on installing latest patch

On installing the latest patch my installer gave some kind of an error reading which I had to ignore before installing the patch. I even had to remove the game completely and reinstall the entire game!

Screenshot, what error, version, OS, and did you install the update using the admin option?

Well, difficult to recall because I reinstalled the game (without latest patch ofcourse). It said several times something about not being able to remove autorun exe. My pc suggested to ignore the message and continue installing the patch. So I did, but when I tried to reopen the game it wouldn't start.

Maybe I know the answer. I didn't buy the latest expansion! Maybe You can install this patch only if you buy the latest expansion? If that is the case I'll have to find some dollars...[:D]

Sounds like you had the game start menu open so the updater couldn't replace it, even then the game should have been startable via the main game executable WarInTheEast.exe

I do hope Matrixgames tested the installer on vanilla WitE and version with either or both of the expansions.
