USA Tomahawks vs Australia in Rugby League Quarter Final

Post by Neilster »

Good luck to the USA Tomahawks who play Australia in the Quarter Final of the Rugby League World Championship in about an hour. They've done very well to get this far.

Admittedly there isn't an oversupply of American accents in the team but they're not the only ones in that boat. A lot of the Italian players looked suspiciously familiar and didn't seem completely sure of their anthem [;)]

For the uninitiated, there are two forms of Rugby. Rugby Union is the more famous international game but Rugby League is very popular in Australia, New Zealand and Northern England. They are both great games and similar in many ways. Historically, Rugby League started about 100 years ago because Rugby Union was strictly amateur and working men wanted to be paid to play. My Dad was a very good Rugby League player.

Hmmm...62-0

The U.S. had some very good attacking opportunities and nearly scored on several occasions. That said, the "Green Machine" were pretty ruthless.

The Tomahawks have had a great tournament though and should be proud of their efforts. They've exceeded expectations in their first World Championship and with limited preparation.
