How to Circumnavigate

Post by wga8888 »

Several references in the forum about moving units from the US to India traveling East around the globe. May be faster then shipping from West Coast to Australia, rail to Perth, then sail to India.

1) How is this done
2) It is considered an acceptable practice?

In WITP it can't be done as there are no other ports than on the WC of the US. Of course in AE things are a bit different.

I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.

This form can get confusing when talking about the original game vs the Admiral's Edition. Hopefully folks will indicate clearly which game they are referring to. In AE you can go around the world either way. I guess you could call it "doing a Magellan".

That explains it. Seems many who post in the WITP forum speak of things in AE, not in WITP

AE is what almost all of us are playing, from what I've read, almost none do the old WITP. Hal

In WitP, I believe any ground units on the West Coast can be changed to SEAC to China command and will teleport after 60 days. Never actually tried this before myself but it is repeatedly mentioned in these forums. Might also work for air units as well.

That does work, but was generally frowned upon as a gamey tactic of transporting ala "Beam me up Scotty."

I can't see why it's gamey. The world is round after all. The actual time required to do so is moot, but it's probably less distance to travel to get to Perth from San Francisco if you go east instead of west. If that's what the game engine allows, I wouldn't quibble about it.

OK, just checked it and it's just over TWICE as far going east rather than west (so, ball park really). But the point stands it is possible and the game engine allows for it in a way that is in keeping with the map limitations of WitP.

It was the Community that thought the tactic gamey, not my declaration. To move a unit from the US to India in 2 months would've been miraculous.
