Wiki/Faq?
Hello there, we want to evaluate MWiF as an option for our online gaming. I find it extremely hard to compile valid and current information from this forum. Could you please point me to the FAQ / Wiki?
Thanks,
Phil

Could you be more spacific as to what you are looking for in a FAQ/Wiki?
A "how to", rules explanations, or etc.

RE: Wiki/Faq?
Hmm... I know there are some fan sites of varying degrees of updatedness and comprehensiveness (e.g. Patrice Forno's WiF site, the "Capital WiF" site on wikidot, and a few others which can be found by Google search or are linked to on ADG's website). And there's the Yahoo!Groups email list and this forum.
However, I am not certain if a better-organized online compendium of all things WiF exists at present. Perhaps others can help more easily than I can.

I do not require information on WiF in general, we have multiple copies of the complete kit. I am after information about _M_WiF. Esp. the online mode of play with multiple (that reads as four in our case) players; the price; the mod'ability; [endless list]. A diff-like approach to to MWiF <-> RAW7.
I just feel these questions have been answered already and there should be a place to read up on everything(tm) in one place spending about 15 minutes.

The initial release is only 1vs1 online multiplayer via the matrix server. They are planning to introduce more than 2 player online gaming relatively quickly...I think I've seen an estimate of 3 months.
No price yet. I have seen others ask about modability, don't recall ever seeing a response that answers definitively. Don't know what you mean by MWiF - RAW7...

RE: Wiki/Faq?
I think it would be impossible to include everything that people are curios about. Like others suggest, if you have a question there are many people here that can answer specific items.
This may be of help for one of your questions though. Steve has posted this elsewhere but I can't seem to find it.

RE: Wiki/Faq?
Why would it be impossible to include everything people would be interested in in one place?
Everything I read here indicates that MWiF will not be an adequate multiplayer platform for WiF. 1v1 hotseat only, no board game maps, the 8bit 1990's Delphi app look .. all are a moderate downturn so for me. More so I cannot see how this would be an improvement over our current platform: vassalengine.
I will wait until there is a demo or someone does a let's play video of multiplayer online gaming.
Thanks,
Phil

RE: Wiki/Faq?
Netplay is also available so that you can play against someone. Although only 1 vs 1 at release.
Just wondering why you care about the game using the board game maps versus a unified scale that covers the entire world? To me that would be a far superior solution than the maps in the board game.
There are also several AARs in the forums already that give detailed discriptions on how the game looks and plays.
But if you would rather stay with vassel, then go for it [:)]

O.K. Maybe improbable is a better word.

I've never used Vassal for WiF. I'm pretty new to the system. But I have used vassal quite a bit for ASL and while vassal accomplishes what was not available before, the second that someone would make an ASL game that not only enforced the rules, but made the whole process so much easier to execute, I would jump all aver it. Here soon, after the release, I'm sure that players who have played WiF on Vassal will chime in on their experiences between the two.
Take care,
Eric

I went ahead and looked into the vassal wif. You were saying something about graphics? The Murat sure is one awesome ship though. Has a great land movement rate.

RE: Wiki/Faq?

Perhaps it would help if it were more clear what "everything people would be interested in" is more carefully defined?
Are you talking about "differences between MWiF and WiF:FE"?
Are you talking about product features of the sort that Matrix might reasonably display on their product page?
Are you talking about a "one-stop" "MWiF-pedia"?
Everything I read here indicates that MWiF will not be an adequate multiplayer platform for WiF. 1v1 hotseat only
The bolded section is an incorrect statement of fact; the un-bolded section is an incorrect inference or "framing" from what is given from the facts.
In his response gridley noted the game comes with 1v1 online play.
On release MWiF has:
- solitaire play
- hotseat play
- 2-player Netplay
This will be extended to include up to 6-player Netplay, solo vs. AI, and multiplayer PBEM.
no board game maps
I confess I cannot see how this is an inadequacy. CWiF, MWiF's predecessor, was commissioned by ADG and includes a unified map scale. From that (and from other scuttlebutt I have read or heard) we can infer that the official computer game version of WiF was conceived by ADG as having a single global map on a unified scale, rather than maps matching those of the boardgame.
The remainder of your comment, save the very end, appears to consist of "in my opinion" statements, and thus can have no sensible response except for others' statements of their opinions. (Such as, for example, me stating that I find the map and counters aesthetically appealing and functionally serviceable).
I will wait until there is a demo or someone does a let's play video of multiplayer online gaming.
An excellent decision, and indeed one I would recommend to anyone who is uncertain about purchase.

I hope you do reconsider once that time comes and it meets your multiplayer requirements. You are the exact player that is beneficial to growing the pool of future opponents online, a pool that is already pretty niche.
If you have any more questions fire away.

The (high resolution) screenshot of MWiF you just posted looks a lot better than others I have seen before. Probably due to jpeg artifacts and such.
The vassalengine module you tried there module that you can download from the module page. We have another with counters from WiF compendium CD. Anyhow, visual appreciation is entirely subjective in the end..

Yeah, it actually shows up better than what my screen captures display. I have to admit that my wif module is probably dated a bit. Anyway, good luck and check back often.
Steves screen shows up much better than mine.
