Running on Mac and Linux? YES

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Running on Mac and Linux? YES

Post by pelle75 »

Just wanted to say I gambled on this game running on one of my computers, despite not having a native Windows install on any of them, and it still works great. Played for a few hours in WINE on my Ubuntu Linux laptop and then for a few more hours in Windows XP running inside of VirtualBox on my iMac, and don't seem to have any problems at all. Awesome!

OK, there was a minor thing on the Mac, some hanged Spotify process was hogging the sound device, and when starting a scenario the game tried to play sounds, but failed, so it started spamming the screen with dialogs saying it could not, and then just hanged. Not sure if that was because the virtual Windows XP saw the missing sound card and caused an error that you will not normally encounter in Windows, or if this is a real bug that will also affect real Windows users when sound is unavailable for some other reason.

Not that I'm going to bother you with bug-reports, since most problems I encounter will most likely be caused by running on unsupported platforms. But I'm happy that it happens to work this well (as do most games from Matrix Games I have bought btw).

Wow....I'm glad you took the chance and it's working out for you!

I never thought of running this on a Mac. Since I don't have one. It's good to know it will.

Good Hunting.
