The Preliminary 2.01 Update List

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

The Preliminary 2.01 Update List

Post by CapnDarwin »

The keyword to focus on is Preliminary. Items are subject to change. Thinks on here may not make it if something goes off the rails in testing and other items are in process and not on this list and a few things will just have to be surprises. [:D]

Completed and pretty firm to be in the update.
1 Fixed - Avatar Selection dialog causes a divide by zero error when hitting the proceed button.
2 Fixed. Scenarios not loading sils at start, need a way for mods to load if scenarios are locked. New menu item to load from files once a scenario is loaded.
3 Fixed, we think. - Off standard DPI setting cause scenario edit panel to vanish or grow too big.
4 Updated - Additional information and explanation for the map scroll setting and mouse polling, etc. in options dialog.
5 Fixed - End Game, can’t get any of the command notebook to set to player 2. Blocked by FOW settings still.
6 Updated - Dedicated names for player 1-NATO and player 2-WP.
7 Updated - FV432m sil has a bad pixel.
8 Fixed - PBEM++ Radio message says Matrix Club Member.
9 Added - Unlocked Tutorial Scenario file.
10 Updated - Tutorial Scenario revised with new VP locations for added fun!
11 Updated - Combat model revised to lower FSCC called in strikes against air search radars from helo RWRs and added new combat hints for detection of hostile ASR and also FSCC ID for strike.
12 Fixed - 1E and 1F game option hints not right. Both using 1D hint.
13 Fixed - In game icon on forms is a blank. Needs to be game icon from exe

In process and planned for 2.01 release.
1 Updated - Make the game options sticky for single player.
2 Fixed, we think - Subunit Inspector panel is getting lost under main game window.
3 Updated - Allow VP markers to stay toggled off.
4 Fixed - Battle conditions panel uses dates from windows OS causes odd issues in game with languages IE you get localized names for months.
5 Fixed, we think - PNG file will not load (game map?) after hitting proceed in options, using traditional Chinese in Windows and possibly other localizations.
6 Fixed - PBEM++/PBEM files not loading if games had different localizations (issue with decimal separators "," or ".").
7 Added - Map Editor needs to allow users to manually edit road net.

As we firm up more info I'll update this. The 23rd is the target day just to answer that question too, but it could move if issue arise with testing over the weekend.

This is a heavily bug focused update to get people up and running, but we did squeeze in a few player requested enhancements and more will follow down the road.

Thanks for posting your bugs and ideas!

Will any of these fix the PBEMs where the reds cannot deploy their forces the places they want? This has handicapped my playing time with this otherwise fine game.

Not directly. We have this issue high rated for a fix but right now it is not in the 2.01 window. It is tough to get a fix going when we can't repeat it reliably on our end. The fact it happen to some scenarios and not all is also making it tough to home in on. There is a small chance that some of the localization fixes we are getting into the game fixes the issue, but we will have to wait and see.

Any other information you can add in the Tech section with respect to your setup, other bad scenarios, etc. Will help us. I would even say try playing head to head with on of the known "bad" scenarios and see if you get side two setup. That may help us narrow down even more.

Capn. Darwin, hi,

The ability to cut a portion of the map in the editor, or some other way through its data files.... would be great.

For smaller scenarios it’s not ideal to have your forces lost on a huge map. More immersive to have the map fit the idea behind the scenario, the operational setting you have in mind. So a small map representing a portion of a bigger intense fight.

All the best,
Kip.
PS. I realise you will be bombarded with requests and ideas, but you did ask.. [;)]

Ok I can tell you right off the bat that in head to head the setup zones are present in all the scenarios ive looked at.

That is a huge piece of the puzzle to know. Tells us something in the transfer of information in PBEM is breaking down. Thanks for checking.

Kip - Added to our features wish list and a good idea. At one time we had talked about that style of a huge map and then cut down but moved away from that.

BORJD - So are we.

It look more like a 1.1 than a 2.01 release. A change in the first digit usually implies a major release.
Did I miss something?

FPG was the 1.0 game engine so this game engine is our 2.0 version so the 2.01 update.

Will you do anything to improve the efficiency of SAM systems against helicopters? Right now they are incredibly useless. At most one in 20 missiles hits a helicopter, that is usually not a fast moving target

In the last scenario I played, in forty minutes 8 Mi24 were pulverized by two Sparrow batteries 3 Km away.
Quite effective they were indeed.

SAMs, appear to be doing a fairly realistic job right now. We will keep an eye on the forum for any indication of a major problem.

Sorry, I posted in another thread. Was going to be yesterday, but we pulled it back to fix an issue with backward compatability and verify the new install for the update. With any luck, it will be out today. I will see if I can get a ETA.
