Beaufor Torpedos

Post by wga8888 »

Its 12/27/41 and I have an 8 plant group of SWPAC Australian Beauforts now deployed in DEI. In the first two days up there, it has made 4 attacks vs IJN shipping at range 1. However all have been bomb attacks at 6000 ft. I would prefer them using torpedoes. I changed setting to 4000 ft for this next turn to see what happens. Experience is low (56) so have not hit anything yet. I would like them to use torpedoes however. Any insight is appreciated.

You will have to "buy" land based torpedoes before such planes can use them. This takes an Air Command HQ. Go to one on your list and look at it, you will note that it has a "Torpedoes" line and an ability to click on that line. Once the window opens you will note that it allows you to buy up to 20 torpedoes at a time presupposing that you have the supplies to buy them (I can't remember how much a torpedo costs). Once you buy enough to equip the planes, you will then be given the option to load torpedoes. Unless all this happens, your torpedo choice will remain RED, not usable. Only when it turns yellow are in the clear. Hope this helps. Note that this is not the procedure for CV based torpedo Aircraft as the ship has its own limited supply of fish. Hal

No, the buying of fish is done in AE, not WITP.

Is the airfield they are based out of a 4 or larger with adequate support and supplies?

I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.

???? I thought you had to spend supplies in exchange for Torpedoes. Do I have that wrong?

I believe some versions of Beaufort don't have torpedoes in their loadout.

Assuming that this type does carry fish you need to fly off of a 4 airfield for a 2E bomber to not have penalties.

Buying fish is in RL and AE. [8D]

That is the answer, the default load is torpedo, but they are flying out of a level 3 airfield at the movement. Will move it back to a AF4. Thanks

Todd, you're missing the baby boomer spirit. It is "movement", as in "go with the flow". And thanks for your help. It's astonishing that I was oblivious to this game until a couple of weeks ago. The wave has obviously passed and I look rather forlornly at the ghosts of threads past. Speaking of which, did "Hibiki" ever make it to a consolidated publication? An enthralling story, wonderfully told.

I don't know if Hibiki ever got to that. You could PM Cuttlefish and find out.

OK, I'll bite as I've taken a double dose of stupid pills along with my pain killer that renders me a pudding head at times. Moment v Movement? I'm missing the point as we "Boomers" are more and more apt to do as we age.

Just a stupid 1960s reference. Not that I was there, but I saw the movie.
