Import/Export Facilities DB: Get them here

Post by vettim89 »

I have been doing a lot of work on some Cold War Era scenarios. Much of that work involves creating facilities like Stornaway for post 1979 scenarios. Currently working on a scenario Based on Red Storm Rising. My question is: is there a way to share this work with the forum. It takes a lot of work and just seems a shame to put all the time and effort into the creation of facilities and not be able to share the work

Great idea, I'm also building a lot of facilties right now, in the 1985-86 timeframe. We should get a sticky for this, so people can post their creations.

At the moment the ingame import/export directories seems to be one each for a single country. I am sure you can drill down the directory structure to get to specific sub directories to create, load and save. (Having said that I have only used added flat directories.)

Each facility structure built and exported has its own .inst filename. If everyone is doing their favourite facility without some sort of naming standard, it will soon turn to a shambles with no hope of forming some sort of Data Base from these files. So I propose a filenaming standard for facilities that will help in compiling all this work into some database format. The filename would be made up of a series of description blocks for ease of database manipulation. Space separated between description blocks. Underscored between words in the description block for better human readability without destroying the blocks structure.

NATION STATE LAND/SEA FACILITYNAME DATE AUTHORBUILD .inst

So my facility that I've built would become export filename;

Australia NT LAND HMAS_Coonawarra_Naval_Base 2013 brassem_build_012 .inst

Listed for clarity ->

Australia -> Nation
NT -> Region
LAND -> Facility Type
HMAS_Coonawarra_Naval_Base -> Facility Name
2013 -> Relevance (by date)
brassem_build_012 -> Author and version
.inst

Please note the space before the .inst

Using a filename structure as above I feel would make the whole process of managing many facilities so much easier.

Yes, no, problems or improvements?...

EDIT: Would probably work if you could resize the left dialog window panel to see the full facility names to import. Unfortunately you cant. You have to use the horizontal scroll buttons to view a column snapshot of the facility files. Back to short filenames then...

Is there any place where we can already upload our facilities to?

It would be good if they could be hosted here on the matrixgames servers as a central location.

Edit: Still no solution on where we can host facility files?

You can only attach one file per post... so thats why... The OP needs to create a post for each file.

"The Iranian Project" includes(so far)

1. Airbase AAA defensive positions only
2. Airbases(shipped) with the AAA
3. EW AAA defensive positions
4. SAM AAA defensive positions
5. Nuclear facilities AAA defensive positions, Added Bushehr and Fordow Nuclear facilities
6. Geothermal/gas/wind/hydroelectric powerplants, dams, oil refineries.(all single-unit)
7. WMD research and related buildings and complexes(single-unit)
8. AddedPorts(work in progress), Bushehr(north) and Abu Musa
9. AddedSSM Complexes, additions to (shipped)Khorrammabad Imam Ali and the Kermanshah/Bakhtaran SSM complexes, added Quds SSM complex

includes a ton of 23mm ZU-23-2 and 35mm Oerlikon/Skyguard units!

Note to scenario writers regarding the AAA:
The units in these files are placed where actual AAA "pads"(not AAA pieces) are located using open source imagery(mostly GE).
1. Once imported around a given facility, 50% should be deleted considering the (x2), Command uses a "dispersal radius"(basically 1 hellfire can't destroy a ground unit that is a x4 or in this case a ZU-23-2 (x2).
2. Delete another 50%(probably ~70% or more) after that to simulate maintenance issues and actual number of AA pieces (just because there are 58 "pads" around a facility, doesn't mean there is 58 actual functioning artillery pieces).
3. The more units that are in a scenario, the harder your cpu has to work(slows down).
4. Realism is what I think most of us are trying to achieve.

Example:
58 pads around facility - 50%(because of the x2) = 29 - another 50% or more (because of realism) = 14 or so(8 or 9 if you subtract ~70%), make sense

more to come

US-Pacific Fleet, including

CSG-1, CSG-3, CSG-5, CSG-9, CSG-11, ESG-7, LCSRON-1, PHIBRON-1, PHIBRON-3, PHIBRON-5, NAVSURFGRU MIDPAC, SUBDEVRON-5, SUBRON-1, SUBRON-7, SUBRON-11, SUBRON-15, SUBRON-17 AND SUBRON-19.

Scenario writer notes: From late 2013. VFA's have 10-12 aircraft, here they have 12, easier to delete if needed. Carriers only have 1 helo of given type to preserve squadron name, no aircraft on any other ship. Carrier/ship magazines need filled. Squadron names are the "callsigns". Formations need to be set. No replenishment vessels. Some escorts may not be underway with assigned group, maintenance/dry dock other duties. PHIBRONs have no escorts. Subs surely don't deploy in large groups.

Fleet Forces(Atlantic fleet) coming soon
