[DONE] Scenario for testing: Hunter Killers

Post by hellfish6 »

Started working on this during the beta, but I've been distracted with moving and living out of a suitcase.

The scenario is set in December 1962, following an invasion of Cuba in November. NATO has to get a convoy across the Atlantic and the Soviets need to stop it. As it is a week long mission, it's almost like a mini-campaign. I built it specifically to play with a US ASW hunter-killer group, this one centered around the USS Randolph.

As a caveat, I can't play the game at anything greater than 1:15 second speed, so I've never made it more than a day into the mission. I suspect it has to do with my laptop, but if anyone else has lockups or freezes, I'd like to know.

It is running smooth enough up to 1 minute speed, but i have many lockups.[:(]

Looks very promising though, i sat drooling in front of my screen when i looked at this interesting Vintage OOB.

Eventually, time permitting, I'd like to do a whole series of late '62-themed scenarios. I've got my dad's old copy of the '62-'63 Janes Fighting Ships right here and I drool over the possibilities fairly regularly.

By and large I'm looking for an excuse to pit the USS Newport News and some Sverdlovs against each other.

Hmmm... maybe "Break Through the Bosporous" with 6th Fleet and what's left of the Turkish navy barreling into the Black Sea? MCMs, naval gunfire, maybe a strike carrier, amphibs, vs Soviet, Bulgaian and Romanian air and sea power... hmmm...

Hey HF, is this one still under testing or do you consider it release-grade ?

Nice scenario.

Two opinion:
1. Add aircraft with ASuW loadout for NATO side?
2. Update DB to latest version? (Some patrol aircraft using air search radar instead of surface search radar)

All S-2s and I think most P-3s and P-2s have ASuW loadouts (rockets and 500/1000lb bombs). Or they should. You just need to rearm them in the air ops menu. It's a week-long scenario so you should have plenty of time to do so at your convenience. I usually keep one S-2 squadron on my convoy and carrier ASW patrols, then another one for long range recon and, later, ASuW strikes. S-2s aren't the best ship killers in the world, but I usually have pretty good success.

I'm updating the scenario based on JCR's feedback, so when I republish it, it'll be on the latest DB.

There is a problem on soviet side,
All runway access points are occupied by Tu-16.
So, no any Soviet aircraft can take off until these planes leave.

Yeah I fixed that. I think the problem was with all the planes becoming ready at the 30-minute mark and they overwhelmed the airbase when they tried to surge. I reported it as a bug, but haven't seen if it's been corrected yet.

Bumping an old thread but I really loved this scenario. Would you consider updating it to say 1980's or any other period.
