fog of war and displayed combat power

Post by USSLockwood »

I'm a little nervous about a large rebel force to the east of Mannassas.
The unit has a displayed combat power value of 600. There is another
large rebel unit in the Shenandoah with a displayed value of 1300 and a
third in W. Virginia with a value of over 1000. In the west there are
numerous large concentrations of traitors.
I'm starting to feel like McClellan, outnumbered at every turn. Is there
a chance that these numbers are inflated?

I guess they are inflated... got any cavalry nearby to scout? Perhaps the latest patch includes Little Mac's ability to count the enemy forces 2-3 times.

I've hired Mr. Pinkerton's firm and he advises that the reb's outnumber me 7 to 1!

Let's hope the figures at the ACC at KMYF are the real ones, uh? ;)

I'm thinking the numbers aren't too inflated. I'm severely outnumbered in NE Virginia, but my series of forts have them stalled (ATM). I continue to build troops when possible, and just now (late 1862) have outnumbered the rebs in the west (KY and Missouri). The sheer force building potential of the North eventually takes over.

Reading Mr. Burns' AAR it seems that the South actually exceeds the industrial potential
of the North by '63/'64.

I've looked at the two he has in the AAR forum, but neither has proceeded past early '62. Which mentions of South overtaking North are you seeing?

In his ongoing game "Burns (USA) vs. Pelette (CSA)" he states that his play testing vs. the AI indicated
that the South was able to field a larger army than the North by '63.

There is no way for South to have greater industrial production than the North. Even if it used up all its industrial options, and the North none, US would still produce more war supplies.

About combat power numbers you are seeing - it includes commander ratings as well. So if CSA force is led by R.E.Lee expect 25% higher combat value because they are led by the man[:)]
