Brian V Hensley 44 German offensive

Post by BrianG »

I have been playing against Dough Hensley now for 2 years on this game which has not gone well for the Germans.
I had a good open but failed to take Leningrad. I have a decent 42 attack but fell short of about 4 hexes of having a mass surround. After that it has been a Russian slug fest with me retreating fast in late 42 43.

I defended the borders of Hungary and Slovakia.

Come June 44 I launched a desperate counter attack trying to bag something and stop the Red roller. These maps show that attack.

I hope they are not out of sequence.

Before I forget a few things to note.

The Germans must be given massive AP to play with at least twice a year in 44 to redo corp alignments. My boards will show a complete mix-up of colors. Perhaps in the Mid seasons.

Also, the Russians should NOT be allowed to defend the border of Finland with Forts. Real units please. This would affect 41 and force Russian to have less elsewhere.!!!. It would be a good add-on to the new rules.

My strategy was to time my attack on the turn that the Hungarian front would break. This meant those Russian armor units down in Hungary could not counterattack my offensive which was near Trope

Major retreat issues with armor. On this map I had about 6 or 7 Panzer units routed. The stack with the yellow panzer 9-38 and the stack to his right. All were tank units. They are all on a mountain which is not on a road. Really a very bad retreat rule as applied to these routed units.

This is turn 161.
tanks should not retreat to non-road mountain hexes unless no where else to go!

btw, I still hold Finland and Konigsberg.

I have seen now a defense where you do not block Hungary but fortify the mountains south of Berlin from attack from the south. A better strategy but he was near the Oder by end of 43. No final map yet.

Also a odd thing is the extra STug42's in pool. .

I cut off his middle Guards armor. But the Russians only needed to take Bratislava to get victory and they did not relieve these units. They took Bratislava and got the top victory . fun game and allowed for some crazy German counterattacks.

A last note.

As the loser, the last Russian turn is sent to me. I only see the final positions and can't check any of the last battles.

THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED!

Thanks

and great game.

I'm pretty sure you can. The keyboard commands should work.
