DB with stronger Japan

Post by pcellsworth »

I started with the scenario I modified with the added battleships. Then increased Japan's forces some what as a stepping stone to help me play Japan (which has to be done near perfectly or you are toast very quickly). Play it if you like. The allied player will be somewhat more challenged. Note: This scenario is not historical or even remotely possible for Japan.

(Text from old scenario)
This is a modification of DalronBabes ver C where I added the battleships and battle cruisers as if the Washington treaty did not occur or was delayed. Japan gets 8 battle cruisers and 8 battleships. The USA gets 6 battle cruisers and 6 battleships. I didn't add anything for the British. I used SCEN 43 so if something else is there that you want to keep you will need to move it.

I created this purely for my own experimental "what would happen if."

You need to use the expanded map.

I left the fast battleship with their traditional names as I am more comfortable with them that way. (I started with the South Dakota class having their original names but I didn't like it so I changed it so that the fast BBs get their names and changed the added BBs).

There was an error with the North Dakota BBs in that when you upgraded you would lose 1 main gun per turret. Added two BCs to KB and added a BB to Heavy Cover TF.

(end text old scenario)

The allies gain a lot of battleships they get 5 battle cruisers plus the BB from the original South Dakota class (renamed North Dakota class), the 5 BB of the Montana class, 2 additional Iowas, Kentucky and Illinois. In all 14 BBs and 5 BCs. The BCs make nice escorts for the CVs. (I like BBs, too bad they didn't have a more important role in the war). Japan gets 8 BCs and 8 BBs.

The additions. Japan get some CVs & CVLs in 43.

Japan had developed a 4 engine bomber in 39 / 40 that was judged a failure and not put into production (G5N1). Only 6 were built and they were used as transports during the war. The principle problem was the NK7A engine did not develop as much power as planned. I went with the assumption that by 1941 the engine would be correct and the aircraft put into production. At the start Japan has two of these heavy bomber wings at the start. One in Saigon and one in Takao. A third wing is formed latter in 42. At the end of 44 the better G8N1 becomes available as a replacement. These planes have a little better range than the Betty bomber. An increase in HI to build these planes and engines, plus an increase in the refinery to created the need fuel.

The economy is increased a bit for increased AC production. The new carries get a some additional escort ships. A modified version of the Agano class. (Japan is really short on escorts).

Japan's anti-submarine is really bad, so some PF and PE were create to help here as well as. Aogashima, Daito Shoto and Naha are used for the anti-submarine effort and have a wing of Mavis each.

A few additional land units were created.

An improved SNLF unit. Also a few addition auxiliaries.

If you want a better challenge playing as the allies you might like this (or not). Japan is a lot stronger.

Not much play testing time with this yet.

Once I have mastered Japan with this scenario, I will create another, cutting the increased force by half, play that for a while and then try scenario 2 again. First time I did scenario 2 (or was it 1?) I crashed Japan's economy despite shipping as much oil as I could get ships to the sources and then could not figure out why.

I'm putting it up for any who want to experiment with alternatives.
