Firestorm Scenario (updated to v3 - requires 1.01 RC4)

Post by Elouda »

Decided to upload this little scenario. I originally made it to practice carrier, CAS and NGFS operations with, but it kind of grew from there.

It is set during a fictional second Korean War in 1978.

------------------------------------------

7th October 2013 - Updated Version 3 of the scenario is out!

Changes include the addition of some navigation zones to help the NK AI, the addition of a larger F-4 airwing to the USS Kitty Hawk, and updating the scenario database version to the latest. This means the scenario will require the 1.01 RC4 patch.

The original version, compatible with all versions, is available here;

Feedback and suggestions for improvements welcome!

super scenario - great fun. Lost the Iowa to a swarm of Silkworms and I think she ran into a minefield as well but her guns were blazing until the fire was out of control and she went down (too easily I think)

I like this one, I hope you don't mind but I added all the database images to match this scenario. Having pictures makes it so much more immersive and easier to gauge what we are up against, at least for those of us not as familiar with all the equipment. Use the following two links for all database images.

Downloads (you need both)

Instructions
Extract the .jpg from the two files above to your matrix games/db/images/CWDB

Thanks for all the feedback!

I love the pictures - I haven't actually used any before this, so it was kinda neat to see how they work. Thanks for providing them!

I am working on adjusting the North Korean AI slightly to improve its reactions. Also, it seems a lot of the SAMs are only firing intermittently and the MANPADS not at all at times, so once that gets fixed the targets should be a little harder.

Will add a note to avoid getting too close to the coastline.

Hi there !

Juste playing around with custom layers with your scenario.

For people who wanted to give a try, I've uploaded the layers here :

Just decompress all the files somewhere and use the menu "Map Setting" > "Custom Layers" and then add each png files.

Very nice mission! I never noticed that there is an airfield down south with so many assets.[:)]
You could zoom out more like many mission designers do to make it more visible for people like me.

Will make sure that for the next version the start is more zoomed out. Not something I typically pay attention to since it flip back and forth between edit and play mode so much and know whats where, but I can definitely see how you could miss it!

Updated scenario is out!

Changes include the aforementioned starting screen relocation to better cover the whole battlespace, some changes to North Korean AI and trigger zones, the addition of a could of H-5R Recon aircraft to the NK side, and the addition of a pair of RH-53s with minesweeping gear to the US side.

Very nice, played this a couple of times.[8D]
I found some strange things though.

Some of your NK Ships ran into their own minefield, maybe you should leave a channel open and make sure their waypoints lead them through those channels.

And your NK missile boats twice fired their missiles towards their own harbor(where the mines struck, silly AI thinking it was a Ship who sank them???), when they didnt find a target there they changed course for my fleet, but didnt have enough range left by then.
I will attach a savegame of the second such missile volley.

Your silkworm SSM land battery never fired, is this intended?

The waypoints should have avoided the minefields, but I've added no-navigation zones to them to ensure this doesnt happen.

I have no idea why the missile boats fired at the coast - your guess is as good as mine.

The silkworms typically only fire as you get closer due to need to get a better lock as well as actually ID the US forces.

I am in the process of playing through the scenario to make sure nothing odd happens, ill post the update once I'm done if all goes well.

Played through with no issues (atleast until both the missile boats and silkworms were dead).

Just a heads up everyone, I am working on a revised version of the scenario (titled Operation Firestorm, 1978), which expands the area of operations a little, has slightly more objectives and has better researched forces for both sides (for a fictional conflict anyway). It also includes an entirely redone set of AI missions and triggers, some random positioning and other fun stuff.

ETA for release is probably in a day or two.
