All of his books were better than the subsequent movies.

RIP!

He's not the reason I got interested in aviation, but I certainly got interested in his books because of that and that triggered an expanding of my interest beyond the awesomeness of fighter planes [8D] and into a more broad interest in military history/warfare. Also had a lot of fun playing the first games in the Rainbow 6 series online for years and made a bunch of friends. Not directly his everyday work but spinoff from what he did.I just grabbed RSR off the shelf the other day to research some for possibly reproducing an event in Command and of course I immediately started reading beyond the paragraphs that were relevant haha. Had to stop myself. [:)]

But I think now I will reread all the boks again.

Yes Das Boat was so much better! But The Hunt for Red October a decent movie nevertheless! The Sum of All Fears was not a good movie. It was not true to the book. Too bad really.

I guess I should stop being amazed by what gets posted online in forums. Who would hijack a memorial thread to deliver their trite opinion about media associated with the author? Couth, couth! My kingdom for some couth.

How can you have a memorial thread for such a great man without reflecting on his masterful works? Isn't the most fitting form of praise for such a man?

Not a big deal. I happen to agree about the book but still watch the movie anyway. Yes, he was a master for sure. We will both miss him, I'm sure. Ordered another copy of Red Storm Rising to read in his honor.

Trite? Hijack? I really enjoy that movie and it wouldn't exist without Clancy's writing. You do realize he founded a media empire that went well beyond books to movies and computer games, right?
