Installation Time...just a heads up

Post by thewood1 »

This thing takes forever to install. I am not complaining, it contains a lot of info. But I thought I would warn people.

I have had it downloaded and installing for over 40 minutes and it is less than half done.

Holy Crap! It looked like it was almost finished then started a second round of intallations that look to three times the time and size of the first part. This looks like it might be a multi-hour install.

It is a large install both in file size and number of files. It installs here in about half an hour, but if you have aggressive anti-virus software that tries to check everything, it may take much longer. We recommend disabling anti-virus security software before the install and re-enabling afterwards as we do check everything before it goes up on the store to make sure it's virus-free.

My installation took about 15 minutes, but I have several hardisks and I installed from RAID to single drive. I did turn Ad-Aware antivirus off.

If you can, install on the fastest storage tier you can. A fast HDD is good. An SSD is better. A RAM-drive makes dreams come true [:)]

More server capacity would be appreciated with a download this size :-/ . Presently ETA on my end jumps between 1 hour and 5 days...

The good news is that once installed, it runs well even on the minimum spec hardware in my experience. I was running a lot of the test builds on an older laptop without an issue, but installation did take quite a while.

Believe it or not, it even runs OK (depending on scen size of course) on an Intel Atom 330 [:D].

Actually the whole process took 6 minutes on my solid state drive. No problems here.

My final total time was 90 minutes. I had already started it when the advice for shutting down the AV, so I let it roll.
