Bombardment attack

Post by Yaab »

Manual, page 194.

"Bombardment Attack means the unit will toss artillery shells at the
enemy from long range (and possibly receive counter-battery fire).
This will only do minor damage and disruption to ground units. Weapon
types with a range of 3 and an anti-soft rating of at least 5 may fire in a
Bombardment Attack. In order to plot a Bombardment, the unit must have
at least one suitable weapon available and must be an Infantry, Armor,
Artillery or Coast Defense unit. Only the attacker’s artillery weapons may
fire or be fired at
; the defender’s artillery weapons may also fire".

Does that mean that only Army Weapon devices can fire during bombardment by Infantry, Armor, Artillery and CD units? There are lots of organic AFV and AA devices in those units that have range of 3 and anti-soft value of 5. Do they shoot as well?

No, any unit that has weapons of the required range and damage capability can join in on the attack if they are so selected (note; units that have such weapons will allow you to select bombardment from the choice of attack methods). I don't think this is restricted to simply army devices. Again any device that meets the criteria.

Yeah, the manual says Armor units can bombard, and Armor units consist mostly of 90% tanks and 10% army weapons (i.e. mortars), so provided the tanks pass the criteria ( range 3, anti-soft 5) the tanks should fire. Otherwise it would make no sense to enable them to bombard and exclude the tanks.

Cannot really test right now if pure AA units are really excluded from Bombardment attacks. They pack quite a punch.
