Great point!

It is much easier to get pilots replaced, airframes replaced, everything except ships replaced in game.

Sure but Japan did an incredible numbers of mistakes. They refused to change their pilot training policy until it was too late, just as they failed to do anything decent with their ASW (especially naval one)...no escorted convoys etc...
Also would you imagine a jap player sending wave after wave of betties from Rabaul to bomb Lunga at 10,000 feet...who in the hell would do that?

To be honest, after a 1943, the pilot experience doesn't change much the equation. The allied material quality is so much better that even with decent pilots (and I mean just decent, which is the best Japan can get after a certain moment) and lots of numbers your Georges/JAcks/Franks are gonna fall from the skies like flies against Corsairs and P-47s.
I remember when I was sweeping Tokyo from Hokkaido with P-47s... I faced Shidens, Jet fighters, thousands of KI-84r... they were just dead meat at 42,000 feet

He had low exp just for escort missions (Oscars and Zeros), while he kept the good ones for CAP duties

He admittedly only trained them to 45 exp 60 skill, even in the early war. Probably less later. His tactics simply involved greater numbers.

Very very true. However this kind of advance is somehow slow and he needs to keep suppressed so many bases he leaves behind on his flanks that any further advance (important ones I mean) must proceed very slow and always under heavy CAP. As long as he remains on this "safe" route, it's ok for me. It's a long way to Manila at this rate and my second perimeter is building up pretty nicely. He can surely bypass it... but, again, it takes time to advance with this method...
So please, don't tell him he could jump all the way to Saipan... shhhhh[;)]

TO be honest, even if I see Bullwinkle's point about playing for VPs as the game is designed, I've never, ever, paid attention to them. My goal is simply to do better than my RL counterparts.
So far I think I've done a better job, but also realize that QBall has done a wonderful job. I'm not so sure that Nimitz&co. would have done better than Brad considering the losses he has suffered in terms of CVs, BBs, Cruisers and landing ships. He has conquered two whole theatres (SWPAC and SOPAC) in less than 6 months, advancing like a hot knife in butter against a Japanese force that was way stronger than in RL, fielding hundreds of Georges, Franks and Jacks.... something the allies never faced in 1943...

I think the final outcome will depend a lot on how we play these weeks. If he wins a CV battle near Timor, my hopes are gone. If we win I truly hope to be able to still hold some important territories when the white flag will be raised

The battle for Lautem.
The allies move their eastern pinch against Timor, while the enemy¡¦s CVs remain closet o Broome (Northern Oz)¡Kclearly acting to distract me.
The japs did their best to defend Timor East, sending in the KB and some surface forces. Unfortunately we were outgunned and outnumbered¡K still we did some heavy damage to the enemy¡Kbut the price was too high.
In the series of air and naval engagements that occorre near Lautem, the japs lost 200 planes (120 pilots), 6 DDs (with 3 more in sinking conditions...and 3 more that will need some yard time), 2 CAs sunk and 2 more badly damaged, the BB Hei that has 70 flt, 56 sys and 10 fire¡K making 3 knots¡K already considered sunk¡Keven if i can save her in those subs infested waters she¡¦ll be out of the war till 1946 for sure).
For these losses, we bagged 3 CAs, 2 CLs (with one more damaged) and 9 fletchers.. not exactly a good Exchange.

The battles of Lautem were fought with 100% moonlight and in rainy weather¡K the engagements occorre always at 6000 yards or less¡K with the allied radar that always got them the upper hand¡K.

At the same time, after the port raid of yesterday, the allies sent several TFs to raid Biak¡K luckly we avoided most of them.

Near Christmas I.O. we sunk a lone CVE¡K.

A very strange problem has arose. I checked my CVs status...and found that, all of a sudden, 50% of my CVs are "overcrowded" with planes in reserve... so 50% of my CVs cannot operate air units[X(]. I'm sure they were all ok a couple of days back... what may have happened!?!?
Thanks God we didn't have a carrier clash today...but still... that's why our KB performed so poorly launching only a small amounts of raids... Now i'm doing a "workaround" to solve the problem, dividing the air units in 3 parts and fly back to bases 1/3 of those units... but i don't like it... cause we're gonna experience a lot of uncoordination... but cannot do otherwise if i wanna keep my CVs at sea...[:o]

Did you hit a date where carrier groups re-sized? Any that were in/at a port large enough would have done so. I think.

You've done significant damage to his battle line in these fights. In addition to the IJNAF victims, your SCTFs, mines and submarines also claimed a sizeable butcher's bill. That allied CVE is likely a goner, for example. Keep up the good work!

Other than witpqs' comment, I can only think that you've 'upgraded' some of your planes to non-carrier capable airframes.

Odd about CV planes. Sometimes if you're close to the 110% limit any damaged planes count as full cost and reserves are brought into use, thus becomes full cost as well instead of 1/4 cost. That throws the whole mess over the top. That is why I don't completely max my CVs but leave a few extra spaces.

I'd say you did what you have to do here. Although the losses are somewhat equal in my eyes, you show yet again that nothing less than a full fleet invasion will make it through. This slows his process, makes him bring more and never get anything easy. It's a grind and that's tough to maintain.

After the clash at Lautem of Yesterday, the allies moved on with their western pinch... We sent everything we had at hand to defend my only lvl 9 AF in the area (Koepang).
The KB and what remained after Yesterday battle retired to Kendari to refuel...just in time! The allies CVs arrived and moved 1 hex North of Koepang...8 hexes from Kendari!...

Then, at night, an endless number of allied SAG swept the waters of Koepang...where they found what was left of the Combined Fleet... the engagements lasted the Whole night...

...so... we've lost 2 BBs, 2 CAs, 2 CLs (with two more badly damaged)....and a countless number of DDs... plus 600 planes.... Koepang is closed and 4 CVEs are lost.... along with 5 AOs....
The allies suffered 4 CA/CLs and some 10 DDs... possibly the BB Washington is badly damaged and out of the war for some time... and i think 4 CVEs are gone too...

Now i have 2 BBs and 1 CAs, damaged and without ammo and fuel TRAPPED South of Koepang...with his CVs and SAGs closing any retreat route....1 damaged CA and 2 damaged CLs are trapped at Koepang...again with no fuel and no ammo....[:(] and his invasion are just 4 hexes South of Roti... and i have no more SAGs to send into the ring....
He simply has too much of everything....

On a side note, we're experiencing the synch bug again... QBall saw a complete different battle where he won all the engagements and none of his CVEs were attacked...seems that he's experiencing the same thing i'm seeing in my allied game against MrKane.... when the synch bug strikes the allies Always see a one-sided battle.....just like what Spence and FCharton are seeing in their game

That faster pace is possible in game where it wasn't as much in the war. Plus Nimitz and others were a bit more risk averse than most Allied players. Losing ships meant losing men. Look at how many ships were lost in 44-45. Not many. It's amazing they achieved what they did with so few big defeats on the way.

Keep in mind also that in the war Japanese airpower and most naval power were shot in 44-45. I´m sure I wouldn´t lose many ships in 44-45 if you were flying 15-30 EXP pilots. [:)]

I don´t think its a far stretch to assume allied losses would have been significantly higher if the Japanese possessed the same pilot quality in 44-45 as they did in 42.

Sure but Japan did an incredible numbers of mistakes. They refused to change their pilot training policy until it was too late, just as they failed to do anything decent with their ASW (especially naval one)...no escorted convoys etc...
Also would you imagine a jap player sending wave after wave of betties from Rabaul to bomb Lunga at 10,000 feet...who in the hell would do that?

To be honest, after a 1943, the pilot experience doesn't change much the equation. The allied material quality is so much better that even with decent pilots (and I mean just decent, which is the best Japan can get after a certain moment) and lots of numbers your Georges/JAcks/Franks are gonna fall from the skies like flies against Corsairs and P-47s.
I remember when I was sweeping Tokyo from Hokkaido with P-47s... I faced Shidens, Jet fighters, thousands of KI-84r... they were just dead meat at 42,000 feet

Yep, I would rather have an average pilot in a corsair than a crack pilot in a zero.

As for the domestic problem. Remember, sometimes it is easier to just pull the tooth than to live with the toothache...

Just a quick update (unfortunately i'm very busy at work in these weeks and have very little time to play and for the AAR [:o]).

Feb 11, 1944

The allies retired. The invasion of Timor won't happen...at least not today!
The KB moved southwest and positioned 4 hexes north of Koepang-Roti line... and the allies rushed south with everything they had... the lady Lex was even shot by a mini sub...who missed [:@]
The Kb is dancing with the enemy subs... lucky till now.

My two BBs south of Koepang, whom I thought lost...managed to rush east to Lautem, grab some fuel there, avoid two sub attacks and then move north a bit towards Kendari...WOW!
The allies saved them...fearing the KB they didn't go hunting them...thanks god!

Again the 4Es bombed my troops at Proome...while we ambushed some enemy bombers over Sorong... shooting down quite a lot of them but couldn't avoid 2 bombs on one of my CAs...[:@]

Sweeps over Koepang killed lots of KI-84 and J2M3s...while some D4Y4s and some Oscars kami tried to attack the enemy's CVs but got butchered... 160 planes lost for 60 of his...
