Support TF Help

Post by CrackSabbath »

Hello, I have a few noob questions about support TF’s and the various repair ships and tenders that make them up.

1.) For a support ship like an AS or AV to carry out its function, does it have to be part of a support TF, or is simply being present in a hex (at anchor) enough?

2.) Do the support ships have to have supplies loaded on board, or will available supplies in the base hex be enough to carry out rearming, repairs, etc?

Thanks in advance!

1) Present is good enough. I frequently have them disbanded in the base.

2) If the base hex has supplies, they will use those.

two things are needed, supply and fuel.

best to have the supply loaded on the disbanded support
ships.

ACMs don't need supply to tend mines but they do need fuel.

AVs and AVPs which can carry FP squadrons must be in a TF for the FPs to transfer to ship.

No simple answer about disbanding (aka at anchor); it depends on your objective.

Tenders Must Be Disbanded/Anchored To Reload Weapons
Ports that are normally too small to rearm certain weapons may do so if an appropriate tender is anchored in the Port [20.1.2.2] (includes bases with a Port Size 0).

Tender TF Type
When not performing operations while at anchor/disbanded in a port, Tenders are often placed in Support TF missions [6.1.1.1].

Repairing a ship with the Repair Ship option requires disbanding
Steps to use the Repair Ship option for a Repair Ship that is capable of repairing the damaged ship and the type of damage: 1) disband the Repair Ship in a port; 2) disband the ship to be repaired in the same port; 3) stand down the ship to be repaired; 4) click “Pierside” to get the “Repair Ship” option

AKE/AE and disbanding
If you want to rearm from an AE in port, disband (i.e., anchor) an AE in port with supply cargo and then select “Replenish at Sea” on the TF you want to rearm [forum Don Bowen 11/18/2009].

If an AE with supply cargo is disbanded in a port and a rearming TF selects “Replenish from Port”, the rearming TF will only draw on the AE’s supplies if the port does not have sufficient supplies to complete the rearming [forum Don Bowen 11/18/2009].

ACMs and disbanding
ACMs must be disbanded into a base to protect mines there – ACMs will not protect mines while in a task force at the base [6.6.1.2.2].

Repairing and why disbanding matters
Just being disbanded and in a port won't necessarily repair all damage, just all SYS damage. You have to assign repair with either the Pier, Shipyard or Repair ship.
If the damage is in green, then just being in port will repair the damage, if the damage is in red, then you have to manage it. After you experiment with the repair button you will get the hang of it. Note that some ships need larger shipyards for repair or upgrade.

Refueling and disbanding
If a tanker or an AO (with fuel) is disbanded in the port it can always refuel other ships.

"Shakedown" die roll and disbanding
Ships don't have to move to qualify for the shakedown die rolls, only ships disbanded in a port don't get the die roll. If Pearl Harbour is surrounded by Japanese subs and you don't want to risk going to sea for only a shakedown cruise you don't have to move. Just form a TF and stay in the hex. Or your escorts can stay in SF while the transports load up and are getting shakedown die rolls, you don't have to wriggle them one hex out and back again. Probably uses less fuel as well. Fighting warships max out at 45 exp points and minesweeper types max out at 25 and transport/non- fighting ships max out at 15.
[sorry, did not note source in my notes]

just to state the obvious,

keep in mind if you have scattered AGs (lots availble if you have done the conversions) you can resupply a base if you let the base get low, also if you run out of fuel a coulple of AGs can be drained to feed a PT TF or an ASW TF.

for the fueling put the AGs into a TF then have the needy TF refuel at sea.

for resupply, put the AGs into a TF and unload.
