Blockading Research stations

Er.. what's the use of blockading research stations?
The AI seems to do it sometimes.

You can stop freighters from refueling the station or sending materials for upgrades, but I don't believe it has any effect on reducing it's research points.

No, actually, blockades only stop TRADE... with other empires.
Own freighters can dock/undock just fine.

So this is a pretty big AI flaw, keeping ships busy uselessly blockading.

If the research station had a commerce centre then I could understand it, but they normally don't. Maybe blockades stop other empires/independent ships refuelling at the research station. Even then it wouldn't be worth it.

You should log this as a defect in the tech support area.

Sounds like a bug to me. I doubt it was intended.
