Jimbo123 vs cpeterson51

Post by Jimbo123 »

I took some time away from the game for a while for 2 basic reasons. Life got in the way for a while and my growing frustration with the nerfs to the German side. I finally started to chain after trying everthing else and for me it produced the ability to advance far enough in 41 to make a game of it. ( I am by no means an elite player ). I was upset when it got nerfed and combined with the 3 hex per turn RR Repair I had no hope of lasting past 43. Why play! Well I do love the period and the game so I am back. RR repair looks better and Pelton looks as if he is chaining so maybe there is some hope for a fun game. Let me be clear. I lean toward fun and competive vs endless arguments over historical accuracy. Given 2 equal players with no mistakes the game should get to 45.

This is my first game back and the Soviet player if I were to guess has played several games against the AI but never against a human. I have done no chaining or air resupply not because I am against it, I thought it was nerfed. I'll share a few screen shots and then I have a few questions about the state of the game. Please remember that this was accomplished against a new player who has a good understanding of the mechanics but hasn't faced a human IMHO.

The questions

1. Is RR repair faster now than in recent updates
2. Is chaining still possible
3. In all my games I never had a "March Madness" Is that because my opponets were using an earlier version. I was shocked and not prepared for the CV drop. I had read about it just
never saw it. I was still able even unprepared to regain all the territory I gave back as a result of a rather mediorce Blizzard offensive.
4. Going forward does 1.07 prevent players forcing a version of the game they like ie #3
5. I would like feedback on why the Russian forces are so low vs his losses. Post Blizzard I was at 1.3m losses and he had 1.9 captured and I believe 3.3m total losses.
6. Should old fort lines be kept or does it deplete replacements

I'll try to give an idea of how deep the 41 progress was. I have always felt as a German player that if I was able to get far enough into Russia that I would be able to forstall Red Army 2.0
due to manpower centers captured and industry disrupted. For me being able to conduct a healthy 42 offensive would not only make the game more fun but would lead to a more historical feeling.

Been on the other side of a crumbling front!

I would like to shout out to cpeterson51 who fought to the bitter end. He is not part of the forum so I could never e-mail him, but he will only get better. I truly believe this was his first game against a human player if one would call me that!

Good to see you back Jimbo.

I think you're a better player than you give yourself credit for, especially defensively. When I played you you didn't bag much of my army in 41 (nobody does, I tend to run like hell) but likewise I never bagged much of yours in the blizzard and even in late 43 your line was holding against a 9 million man Soviet army even if threadbare in places. Unlike some people would have you believe, winning as Axis isn't about winning the war in 1941, it's about not losing it in 1945. I have played more FTF than on line but the end of 1941 is not when I estimate a German player can beat me, it's the end of 1943. If the German line has started to collapse about then it's probably a Soviet victory. If it's still holding strong then it can go either way.

If that's the OOB as of mid 42 then you're well on your way to victory. Although the big manpower centres (Tashkent et al) are off map, there are a lot of on map manpower centres you can clean up and taking those will severely limit the Soviet OOB. Leningrad is the only one in the north, I find that has a big impact, but in the south there are many that can be used to refill the Soviet army and if you take those out then it's hard for the Soviets to come back. Which is to say that they *will* come back, but not as far as Berlin which is the important thing in game terms.
