Zulu HQ: near Washington DC: The airwar continues well. While the bombings in China are severe we score 23:1 today. The Allies now have close to 200 more A2A kills than Japan and over 300+ more AAA kills as well. Moral is a terrible thing to waste. Four more pilots leave the AVG for a new volunteer squadron in SwPac. More than a couple of double aces swap stories in the O club in Sydney. Good news from Frisco as the 32nd infantry division arrives without need for a license from the pols to use. The British report the 23rd Bde is loading in Yemen for southeast asia. Burma Corp holds after a shock attack yesterday, another day of supply for China.

SwPac: Port Morseby: Some P39s fly the first night CAP missions and prevent the Bettys from scoring any additional hits on the base. A small B17 raider group of 5 ac score 9 hits on Buna. There have been NO losses for heavies since their deployment.

NorPac: The Japanese land on Amchitka. There will be no response from the USN for now.

CenPac: IJN subs spotted at Johnston and off Hawaii. I will respond with assets here. Seadragon spotted well south of Truk in her patrol zone, both sides miss.

Burma: Both sides exchange artillery fire at Pegu. Some Oscars are dispatched over Rangoon.

Perth: IJN carriers up the coast raid the port and sink our mine sweepers. CAP is installed and two TFs are dispatched to area. The Dutch are out for blood. Unverdurben and Dorman are out in front on Dutch cruisers.

China: A small Chinese army is destroyed in the far north. The Chinese begin a campaign to remove the cancer.

It isn´t ground fighting per se that determines whether industry is damaged or not. It is the presence of defensive engineers which matters. The more engineers present at the moment in time when the base changes hands the more widespread is industry damage likely to occur. All industry types is a likely candidate for damage.

Australia for one had at least two different railway gauges - a wide gauge in the south and narrow gauge in the north. They invented rail cars on which the trucks [wheel assemblies] could be swapped out so the train could continue without unloading and changing cars.
I imagine standardization of rail gauge in Europe suffered the same issues. In some cases it was deliberate - so an invader could not use the rail system immediately.

I'm not sure if it differs by scenario, but I am pretty sure one of my city takeovers by assault was done with no engineers present in the enemy ranks, and it still eliminated half the HI and LI and Manpower, although Resources were untouched. I seem to remember the manual saying something about half of the industry being destroyed without any reference to engineers, but I will have to check.

I can test it soon - I am about to take Bangkok which has a static Thai national HQ that I will have to eliminate. If there are no engineers present, I will just assault it. If there are, I will bombard them until they are gone and then try. Looking at both sides of the battle I can verify the Japanese OOB.

Washington: This AAR was named correctly. The time is dark. The perimeter is beset on all sides. The IJN has secured two islands in the Aleutians and will probably seek more. Canton Island in CenPac along with the Marshals and Gilberts. The Solomons down through the Fiji s is occupied and the IJA is camping on the south coast of New Guinea within shelling range of Port Morseby. With the Chinese front collapsing in the north and precarious situation on the Yangtze, it may not matter so much that Rangoon is being evacuated of non essential personel this evening. It is gloom and doom at HQ. As it generally against accepted principals to drink heavy at the O club before the sun sets on Thursdays, it is a dark mood at TWIT indeed.

West Coast: The Hornet uses PPs much needed elsewhere to get her airgroups up to snuff. RADM Fletcher on Yorktown will sail from the AO tonight on a secret mission. Behind him the 111th RCAF sqd loads for Australia. The 22nd bomb group also packs up for a move south. Somewhere an infantry division is expected to arrive by rail for embarkation shortly.

Hawaii: CenPac: Most of the submarine patrols are terminated. The boats will refit, divide into divisions, and redeploy. The 9th Marine reg is expected in port soon. The shipyards are full, the Pearl Harbor strike beat the battleship line to a pulp. While the AAA is impressive at Pearl, many of the fighter squadrons are still under strength and utilizing obsolete birds.

SoPac: The rear depot is functional, defended, and supplied.

Burma: SS Truant scores a hit on CL Abukuma outside Moulmein and sets her on fire. (only good news for the day). The evacuation of Rangoon is ordered, maybe to late. Burma Corp is a shell. The 6th Australians get the news today on Geraldton as they slog through the jungles in Hukawng Valley.

SwPac: Australia: The IJA shows how good they are today at sea and on the ground. The defenders are routed from Geraldton and persued by armor south. Two Dutch cruiser flotillas close on the port at night. They are both annilated. The Sumatra takes 60 shell hits before a magazine explosion finishes her. The Java goes down an hour later. De Ruyter arrives in the day light and is quickly dispatched. All but one destroyer escort, limping home along the coast are lost. While the reports are a bit sketchy, it looks like very superficial damage to the Japanese. The surviving Dutch Cruiser Durban is in bad shape as well. No upgrades to the 1st Aussies today, which worries me. I need to read the manual again. I hope they don't need 350+ squads to begin.

Losses at sea heavy to the Dutch and Australians. Japanese forces close on Perth. Chinese defeat on the Yangtze, the line still holds. Rangoon falls. Peril everywhere.

SwPac: Emergency situation in western Australia as Perth in surrounded. Warspite lost off Port Morseby. She absorbs many shells and takes two CLs down with her. Two IJN BBs will need yard time as well. The IJN land more forces on the perimeter of PM.

Burma: Japanese recon reaches the plains in front of Mandalay. Port Blair under amphibious assault.(Hey spell check!)

China: Air raids continue non stop. Huge numbers of bombers daily.

Mine changed a couple of months back. I assumed it was a Matrix-wide change in the board software.
I haven't checked whether there is a personal preferences setting in the user account to change this.

SwPac: After less than a week of fighting, IJA forces enter Perth.

Burma: The front line trace has disintegrated in the south. IJA forces have reached the river crossings north to Mandalay. Some RAF ground attacks, successful last week suffered acute losses today over central Burma as IJAF Zeros inherit deserted strips. P38s fly their first combat sorties but find nothing. A composite group was filled out in the western US as transferred to 10th Air Force last week to augment the RAF. Most of the 7th Australian division is in theater.

China: Confused front lines as Chinese units attempt to cut off IJA supply lines.

I lost every conceivable confrontation today. Land, air, and sea. I have an IJN TF loose in the central Pacific I can't get clear eyes on and I'm sweating the arrival of Saratoga in CenPac. Even the AVG was bested by early model zeros over Chungking downing none. I am off to see what triggers Australian reserves and brush up on my land combat.
