My army, is this any good?

Post by smark74 »

I'm wondering if this setup will hold up in later scenarios? What do you guys think?

Warning this might include spoilers!

Panzer Corps
My army at the start of Metaxas

6 kradschutzen (modified file so I could get those from start, used 2 through polish campaign, liked them so much that I converted the remaining 4 Inf in "40, it was this or cav tbh.)
2 SE Grenadier/251
4 PzIVD
2 SE PzVID (1 converted from PIII in Reims, one received at start of Metaxas)
1 S35
2 Char B1
1 Matilda II
1 SdKfz 222
1 PzJg Ib
4 Sturmpanzer I (Maybe a mistake but I converted my Polish arty to this as well as all I started with)
4 BF109E
2 Ju87R
1 BF110D
3 Ju 88A

All have 3 stars except:
2 stars: S35, Char B1, 2xBF109E
1 Star: Char B1 & Mattilda II
0 Star: PzIV (new SE unit)

IMHO its most logical to assume that units are battalion size since this is the largest formation used for specialty units (AT,Recon etc.) and Company level would be too small when considering the scope of the battles and maps.

For fun Im posting how I name my units (max number of char is 20):
Battalion nr./Regiment type & number/Division type & number. (Not using Brigades in my OOB)
All German infantry units used "Btl." (Batalion) and all other used "Abt." (Abteilung) afaik.

My OOB:

**Panzer Group Guderian** (Guderian's XIX Corps -> Panzer Group Guderian -> 2. Panzer Army)

I don't know how my army will develop, maybe another division will be added but I suspect that I will have to use many of the 501-511 Schw.Pz.Abt. All depends on how many tanks I really need to field.
Also maybe some of the SS.Schw.Pz.Abt. if I get more SE tanks.

Any suggestions or ideas welcome, I'm playing on FM and so far its its not hard and I have started to be more careful with my units.
I have amassed app. 7000 prestige so far (start of Crete after upgrade+replacements).

I hope my success isn't all due to my Kradschutzen. I have modified the stats as well: -1 to soft attack (same as regular inf) and +30 in price (MC are expensive).
I additionally modified Pionier Battalions to be Bridging as well, German Pionier Battalions had bridging equipment as well (unlike the other army's) and increased price by +30. Would only make sense to use 1 unit per Division at that price.

Regarding tactics I usually deploy and advance in clusters of 1-2 inf, 1-2armor, 1 arty and fighter on top. Infantry usually in front (depends on terrain as well) and then tanks on flanks, and preferably arty cvering all ground units, then I try use fighter on top. I don't use recon or td that much, this early they are very weak and recon I think is almost redundant when I have my Krad :p
