PREVIEW AAR: Ghost Divisions: Guderian Campaign

This exciting new release is a faithful adaptation of the renowned Conflict of Heroes board game that won the Origins Historical Game of the Year, Charles Roberts Wargame of the Year and the James F. Dunnigan Design Elegance Award, as well as many others!

Designed and developed in cooperation with Uwe Eickert, the original designer of Conflict of Heroes, and Western Civlization Software, the award-winning computer wargame studio, no effort has been spared to bring the outstanding Conflict of Heroes gameplay to the computer. Conflict of Heroes includes an AI opponent as well as full multiplayer support with an integrated forum and game lobby. To remain true to the core gameplay of the board game, the PC version is designed to be fun, fast and easy to play, though hard to master. The game design is also historically accurate and teaches and rewards platoon and company-level combined arms tactics without overwhelming the player with rules.

With this upcoming release, here's a sneak preview of the MP Campaign gameplay.
This match is between myself and Eric Babe.
It is played using Classic APs.

There are 2 Campaigns playable as single or multiplayer.
The multiplayer versions are enhanced for balance and playability for 2 human players.

We played the Guderian Campaign.
The first firefight is called 'No Stone Unturned'.
I play the German side and in this FF my mission is to take control of the roads.

I have a platoon of 4 Rifle squads and 2 Lmg sections to accomplish my goal.
I deploy most of my squads in the copse of light woods and a single squad on the left flank.

I'm able to move my troops forward and have no contact.
The Russians lay a land mine and hide units.

I move another Rifle squad to the VP and take damage from a land mine.
The injured Rifle squad is then promptly destroyed by a hidden Russian sniper unit.
The sniper unit is not detected this time when he fires and remains hidden.

On the left flank, my troops move forward and encounter a Russian Maxim mg.
Luckily for me, he misses.

I move for another VP and am hit by the Russian sniper.
This time the sniper is detected. You can add up to 2 CAPs for sniper detection rolls.

My units on the left flank continue to move forward.

On the left flank, my units capture the final VP unopposed.
On the right flank, my exposed Rifle squad survives enemy fire and controls the VP.

FF #1 is complete.
The Germans lost 2 Rifle squads.
The Russians lost 3 Rifle squads and a Maxim mg.

On to the next battle.
This Firefight is called 'The Lodge'.
A Commisar and some NKVD fanatics are holed up in an old Tsarist hunting lodge.
My German units must capture the lodge and eliminate the Commisar if possible.

Turn 1

My surviving units from the first firefight carry over to the next battle and are deployed in the first turn.
Surviving units have a chance to go up a level in troop quality when they move on.
I have 2 Rifle squads and 2 Lmgs from FF1, but unfortunately none of them improved.
They join the other German forces which consist of a platoon of 3 Rifle squads and their amored transport, 3 halftracks.
I deploy in the wheatfield and trees on the South edge of the map.
