Space Monsters

Post by Kushan04 »

Not sure if this is a bug or not. I started a game as a pre warp normal empire. In the game settings I set space monsters to none and enabled Shadows story events. When I unlocked the level 1 hyperdrive a number of space monsters appeared in my home system. Does enabling shadows story events overwrite the no space monster setting under the galaxy set up?

If its not a bug can we please get a patch that would allow shadow story events but without any monster events if they were turned off in the galaxy settings? I prefer to play without space monsters turned on as I find them really really annoying.

I also noticed that when the space monsters appeared the first thing all my military ships tried to do after refitting with a hyperdrive was to go and attack them. I gave them orders to patrol a planet after the first few escorts got slaughtered but the game overwrote my orders and the rest of my fleet went one by one to their deaths.

This Kushan

This behavior is by design. Some of the Shadows story events involve the appearance of space creatures.

However, as you requested, we may be able to alter these events to exclude space creature appearance when you turn them off in game setup.

Thanks

In general when you turn the storyline on you have to accept a few overrides. The original Distant Worlds storyline also includes monsters - it's part of the backstory. Setting the monsters to Off in general means you won't encounter them unless they are part of the story.

I'm not sure if this is the same issue, but I have sand worms constantly popping up in one game. There seems little I can do to prevent them, as they constantly damage the mining station on the planet before it can react. Specifically, this is at a planet with korriban spice (sp?).

Is this by design, or a bug? If it's by design, then any suggestions on how to handle it?

That's by design - planets with Korrabian spice can indeed spawn new sand worms. Keep some ships nearby to keep them under control.
