Spearhead Vs Reich (Multi-player AAR)

Post by Yakstock »

Finally getting some MP time in. My worthy opponent is Phoenix and the Scenario is a semi-historical one.

To my opponent - The attached files contain enemy intel!!! Although I will definitely be lagging our play time, some info may be considered a spoiler for the game.

For the others..enjoy - it will be a long one as the match is 15 days long and I am sure we will likely not get much more than a day or two in a week.

MP ruins a game for me. First I hate being tied to any game for any amount of time and end up resenting having to play..second after playing MP single player feel pointless so I then not only play MP in the end but never play against the AI again either, therefore I never go back to the game. I'd rather play against the AI in ignorance when I feel like it.

That's an interesting account, Wodin.

It's true that it takes the shine off playing the AI.

It's just me who is like this I'm sure. I used to love Squad Battles despite it's limitations..and played PBEM, but after abit I kind of got fed up having to play it everyday cos a turn was a due and one turn didn't satisfy the itch when I actually wanted to play it. So I stopped PBEM and never bothered playing the games again as playing the AI wasn't the same.

I can understand that view. Perfectly. The difference for me is exactly the same, actually, as playing computer chess versus human. Playing a human, for some reason, is very intense, very serious. A lot more seems to be at stake.

At the moment I'm getting trounced in the above MP game, but it's v diff to playing the computer and losing. I'm learning a lot. It's about fifty times more challenging and engrossing and fun than playing the AI, great as that is.

Phoenix..precisely why I wont play MP..as afterwards the game will never feel as good once played MP against the AI. If your happy to play MP constantly thats not an issue. I as said can't stand HAVING to play.

Greatwork with the AAR Yakstock [:)]

I'll refrain from making any comments on how the game is playing until is finished, but it's turning out to be very interesting. phoenix, are you looking forward to post your take on what's happening on the scenario?

Oh. Am I meant to do that? I haven't read what Yakstock has posted, so can't 'reply'. We started playing without the idea of doing an AAR, and then decided to, since Dave had requested MP AARs. BUt I'll have to see if I have enough saves to put something together. I've taken no pics. That would be interesting, yes. It certainly looks like I'm going to have to do some explaining some time, (to my superiors, when I'm pensioned off....), give some account for all the needless death due to my bungling. My previous experience of this scenario is solely against the AI. Yakstock writes great AARs, but, as I quickly found out, he's also a great player. I'm having some difficulty containing his mobility.

OK. Ran into a problem. I would usually put an AAR together from single player saves. But I can't open any of my MP saves to get at them. Any ideas how to get round this? Otherwise I can't really do my bit at all.

I think the initial stages of the battle are lost. MP saves can only be opened within an MP session. If you just keep a few notes on your thoughts and take a few screenshots from now on, it will be enough to comment on Yakstock's AAR once the game is done.
