Cannot seem to get Soviet bombers to fly ground support

Post by wac29 »

Situation:

ShaD bases with IL2's assigned to different air armies
Other bases with fighters also assigned to various air armies
Each air army assigned to a different front
Participation set to 9
Range unlimited
Air leaders level 6
Bases are all 4-9 hexes from the combats of units of the respective front
Happens in all different weather
Ground support on

Doctrine settings:

0% ready required to fly
ground support 300%

Bombers never commit
Fighters commit but likely more to intercept German air.

Manually bombing ground units works fine.

Not a bug, WAD. The Soviet ground support is hardcoded to provide only minimal support unitil autumn/ winter 1941. Therefore it is better to leave the tactical bombers in the national reserve at the beginning.

You can always send a save game to 2by3@2by3games.com. The save should be before the combats. Tell us what attacks you are making that you expect to see aircraft involved in so we can duplicate what you are seeing.

Are you sure you have airbases assigned to air army / front combination that is covering that part of the front? Units need to be in the same chain of command on the front level to be succesful.

Yes

Command structure is pretty good and should work correctly

Joel:

I emailed a couple saved games to 2by3 yesterday. Would you please confirm receipt?

Thanks

Yes, I got them and confirmed that as far as I could tell there was no reason the Soviet bombers weren't flying. There were a lot of airbases seriously overloaded (note the AV support needs), but even so, I'd have expected some to fly. I have sent the saves to Pavel and hopefully he'll be able to shed light on what's going on.

In the save provided they started to fly once I set GS to ON ('x' key or GS setting at the bottom of the doctrine screen). Please check your Ground Support settings.

Sorry but Ground Support has been on the whole time.

Cannonfodder you think both Joel and I missed this?

I was using the latest official version (1.06.19)

I tried with 1.06.27 beta and the problem seems to be solved
