Pranning..Cagayan is a crappy level 2 port. Not easy to load a tank bn and a USMC regt. The tanks are loading first and next the infantry. USMC regiment at Butuan starts loading tomorrow.

We try for another night bombardment of Baybay.

BB's move over to Cagayan to protect the assembling amphibious convoys.

Juneau will spend another perilous day at San Jose to weaken the IJN carrier air groups. Crappy work.

Air losses from yesterday.

We lost 8 airframes on the ground at San Jose

They lost more than that at Baybay and Altimonan. One of those bases also had some transports.

Stalker Girl goes down to the Gaslamp in San Diego for girl's night...takes a handle of Jose Cuervo and TWO varieties of margarita mix...goes to a restaurant called Dick's Last Resort where ...you guessed it..." the waitstaff intentionally act like "dicks" and put a hat on everyone that says things like "my vibrator chipped my teeth"...and, when she gets back, her adoptive sister sends her a book of prayers for a b-day present. RCAF Officer speaking to rough-looking group: ..Right, so here is the crux of the matter. The RCAF is loooking for trained pilots to augment the lads fighting in the sunny Pacific theater.

Bush Pilot 1: Augment?

RCAF Officer speaking to rough-looking group: Yes, as in, to increase or add to.

Bush Pilot 2: We know what it means. What's in it for us?

RCAF Officer speaking to rough-looking group: Well, let's see..there's esprit de corps.

Bush Pilot 1: Esprit de corps?

RCAF Officer speaking to rough-looking group: Yes, as in group spirit...

Bush Pilot 2: <cuts him off> We know what it is. Besides we got that already. Don't we Jaques?

Bush Pilot 3: Oui.

RCAF Officer speaking to rough-looking group: Well, did I mention it's sunny?

Now I remember why we got a second dog! If one of them throws up the other one can eat it.

Just looking in detail at the readiness of ground units for Operation Premature Incarceration.

168th RCT and two tank Bn just left Darwin. 182nd RCT(-) leaving Saumlaki in 1 d minus most of their trucks and a Bn of infantry which is still on Tanna.

These boys can reach Luzon in about 8-9 d, perhaps a bit faster if we turn on the jets.

Cebu USN Bn (with 95 Naval Support pts.) is about 3 d out from Cagayan (driving from Cotabato) but they will need a day or 2 to rest and another day or 2 to embark at Cagayan's rousy port. They are important to hasten unloading at Lucena and there is the poetic part of bringing Phillipine Army squads along for the ride.

21st Marine (60% strength) and 8th Marine (80%) as well as a Marine tank Bn should be emarked for the first day landing though they will have to loiter aboard ship for a while.

That makes 3 Bn of armor and elements of 2 Army regiments and 2 Marine regiments plus aviation support and naval support and SeaBees on D-Day+1. 503rd PIR will be ashore by airdrop the day before. That is not a very big force but JJ appears unready. That is the point.

Tentaive date for the drop of 503rd is March 29.

I can imagine that some will look at solo regiments with 60% TOE or fragments still in the South Pacific and say "Dood, why don't you guys get organized?" [:D]

I guess the answer is this is one way get to Luzon in March '43. To borrow a phrase from Forrest..."get there firstest with the mostest"

Editor's Note: The Editorial Board wishes to express its dissatisfaction with the mention of ****** ******* ******* who does not represent the finest qualities we wish to portray in this account of the war. To tell you the truth, we are also a little uncomfortable with this Halsey fellow and his "Kill Japs!" signs. Now that we mention it, "Johny Jap" makes our skin crawl and "Little...<POOF>

Columnist / humorist Dave Barry refers to his 'main dog' and his 'emergency auxiliary back-up dog'. It's important to have mobile reserves in any ground theater.

Young man in fine linen slacks: What do you mean "...something bad.."

[Joe Pesci type takes a portion of a grass hut and uses it as tinder to light up a fine cuban cigar ...]

Marlon Brando type: "You never know when a fire can suddenly errupt .. or a bartender might suddenly need dental work ...but .. I can help you make sure this does not happen .."

Young man in fine linen slacks: Oh!?! How?

Marlon Brando type: You know this guy Hideo Kuboki has been moving in on our business ... if he had an accident or something... I am sure my boys will insure nothin' bad happends to your joint.......

**************Pranning**************

All manner of annoying logistical problems are turning up.

--The last attack at Manado drained supply from Sangi so the B-24's there are not going to be very useful.

--Jap bombardments of San Jose have sent the supply there into the orange.

--I can't rearm the BB's anywhere North of Darwin

--Severe shortages of aviation support in the squid tentacles.

Oh well, **** happens. [:)]
