Sub attack near Hawaii at 174,107
Japanese Ships
SS I-73
Allied Ships
SS Albacore
SS Albacore launches 3 torpedoes at SS I-73
So I see 2 DUD hits...no big surprise this early in the game. Good shooting by the USN and I think I may be in trouble when the duds go away.
So...I open my turn and what do I see! I-73 in a watery grave. Sunk by INDUCTION VALVE and I am down 8 VPs? [X(][:@][:@]
What the in the bleeping "forgot to do PMS" is that?
I am telling you for the umpteemth time...THIS GAME IS BORKED. Patch it already! This would NEVER happen in real life.

U-boats sunk by Allied submarines
Germans lost many U-boats to the Allied submarine forces during 1939-1945. Several of those were lost with all hands. British submarines were the busiest with 13 kills. 4 U-boats were sunk in the Far East while they served as a part of the Monsun boats there and 5 more were sunk in the Mediterranean sea.
The war at sea was only 3 months old when Germany lost its first U-boat to the British submarine arm when HMS Salmon sank the U-36 outside Kristiansund in Norway.
The U-boats would be lost at a steady rate the entire war with the last one, U-183, being sunk by the USS Besugo on April 23, 1945, only 2 weeks before the German surrender.

Simply awesome. I never saw that message. Makes me wonder what other rare messages might be hidden...

Erm... The message isn't actually in the game.
And the US sub involved was the Gudgeon. So the BORKED post is BORKED!
Patch it, Knavey!

Really?! Damn it, it would perfectly fit to the other stuff that pops up in the reports when you watch closely.

RE: Patch it michaelm - THIS GAME IS BORKED
Definetly borked - because it should be Gudgeon and not Albacore.
Edit: Oh, did not read all replies before posting [:o] - Terminus has pointed that out already.

Holy Cut and Paste Batman! I BORKED UP! Terminus is right...here I was reading about the Gudgeon and I pulled a cut and paste with the wrong SS in it!
Ouch...so much for trying to get one out into the forums with less prep than normal.
It is indeed true...the Gudgeon "sank" the first casualty of the WitP for the IJN...and after the war, it was determined that she probably was the victim of those dastardly dud torpedoes and did not get the kill after all.
I would disagree with that conclusion however, since the result of the torpedo attack WAS a sunk Japanese submarine. If that sub was forced to dive because of the torpedoes in the water, and the hatch or the valve was left open, then Gudgeon should get the credit.
Hats off to Terminus ([&o]) who found my mistake, and thanks for playing once again. [;)]
After all, sometimes reality is a much better read than fiction in the WitP.
