Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! Updated to v1.18

This exciting new release is a faithful adaptation of the renowned Conflict of Heroes board game that won the Origins Historical Game of the Year, Charles Roberts Wargame of the Year and the James F. Dunnigan Design Elegance Award, as well as many others!

Designed and developed in cooperation with Uwe Eickert, the original designer of Conflict of Heroes, and Western Civlization Software, the award-winning computer wargame studio, no effort has been spared to bring the outstanding Conflict of Heroes gameplay to the computer. Conflict of Heroes includes an AI opponent as well as full multiplayer support with an integrated forum and game lobby. To remain true to the core gameplay of the board game, the PC version is designed to be fun, fast and easy to play, though hard to master. The game design is also historically accurate and teaches and rewards platoon and company-level combined arms tactics without overwhelming the player with rules.

Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! Updated to v1.18

Post by Philkian »

We along with Western Civilization Software (www.west-civ.com) are happy to announce the release of the v1.18 update for the critically-acclaimed World War 2 tactical wargame Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear!

The v1.18 update contains numerous fixes as well as rule changes to keep the game balanced and in fit fighting form, including a fix for a recent multiplayer issue. The goal of this and recent updates has been to fully implement the Classic board game AP activation system, as well as adding a host of other features and improvements, including super high resolution 2D maps and counters. This update includes fixes for units low on APs not being able to fire during a group fire, as well as a fix for spent units attached to groups during a Command or CAPs action incorrectly becoming unspent. Additional tweaks include the pass action now finishing the activation of currently selected units in Classic AP mode.

The v1.18 update is comprehensive and will bring all versions of Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear! to v1.18. To download the update, players can run “Check for Update” via the game menu or on the game’s download page.

Change History:

v1.18 – January 28th, 2013

•Fixes

o Fixed a bug with multiplayer games

v1.17 – January 25th, 2013

•Fixes

o Fixed a bug in which groups suffering casualties could incorrectly become spent
o Fixed a bug in which a spent unit could become attached to a group during a Command or CAPs action and incorrectly become unspent
o Command actions with groups were sometimes deactivating units after the action.
o Command actions with groups were calculating the cost of actions incorrectly.
o Units low on APs could not fire during group fire.
o Units added to a group with Classic AP rules now receive the current APs of the group.

•Rules Changes

o The target of a Rally Attempt or Auto Rally card is in an active group, the entire group is the target of the card.
o In Classic APs, using the pass action now finishes the activation of the currently selected unit(s).

Is is correct the only the original AtB scenarios has the nice boardgame-scans? I like this new few, but the other scenarios looks the same as in the beginning of the game release (3d models for trees, houses...).

Is is not possible to play every scenario with the boardgame-view?

Hi hugi, you are correct; only the "Awakening the Bear" Firefights use the hi-res, board game maps. Presumably it is because only they exist as board game maps to adapt. The other firefights use maps not in the board game, i.e. custom maps that WCS created using their Editor for the PC game only.

Hey hugi,

My Stalingrad map is playable as a boardgame map as well.
But it's not available in the giant hi res mode as I have no method to convert it.

The highest resolution 3D models are already higher resolution than can be viewed at most every camera angle. Not only would there be nothing gained from increasing the resolution but, being larger than 2048 px squared, it wouldn't run on many video cards.
